Inspiring Conversations with Kristin Krippa of Krippa Family Psychological & Wellness Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Krippa.

Hi Kristin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out by volunteering at a 24 hour crisis intervention center in graduate school I also worked as an in-home treatment provider to families needing support and behavioral health interventions for their children. After graduation I took a job as a Staff Psychologist for the Department of Corrections. I later moved on to the Children’s Services Director and Willie M. Director for a county Mental Health agency. I left there to provide therapy to Willie M clients and provide Psychological Evaluations for various state agencies, and focus on my private practice. I eventually left the Willie M program and focused solely on private practice and homeschooling my daughter. As my practice grew I saw the need to grow into a group practice to provide the level of care and expertise I wanted clients to experience. I quickly saw the need for an adolescent intensive outpatient program and we started that four and a half years ago. We are currently working on developing an adolescent Partial Hospitalization program.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all. In the early years of my career I was given some great advice about marketing but self promotion was not in my nature. It was also much harder to get your name out there prior to social media and internet advertising. I eventually found my footing, clients referred friends and family to me. As the practice grew, I took trainings on marketing through social media. Learning to run a business and all that entails has been a challenge. Supervising clinicians as their clinical supervisor is a different skill set than supervising people as their boss. Juggling all the things that go into running a business while also seeing clients, and being a mom definitely has forced me to stretch and grow in many areas.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a boutique group practice that specializes in children, teens, and families. We also have providers that specialize in couples and adult therapy including eating disorders, as well. We focus on providing the absolute best service possible to our clients both clinically and making the process as easy as possible. I know how challenging it can be to navigate the mental health system and finding a good therapist is very hard if you are just searching Google or asking friends. We try to make the process easy and help clients find the best fit for them or their family member. We go above and beyond whenever needed. We have a great reputation amongst our clients and other mental health providers and we work hard to keep their trust and faith in us. I am most proud of our adolescent intensive outpatient program. Our program is changing and saving the lives of teenagers every day. We customize each treatment plan for every client tailoring for each family’s needs. Each teen is assigned a lead clinician who works with them individually every week, parents participate in a weekly parent DBT skills/support group, and we can provide additional services such as medication management, Psychological testing, parent coaching, individual or couples therapy for parents. We provide wrap around and step-down services for every client.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The variety of options available in the area. It’s really grown since I moved here over 30 years ago. North Hills has made an amazing transition. I don’t love that they cut down so many trees to expand the beltline.
