Inspiring Conversations with Niosoty M Baptista Paparella of NIO Psychological Services, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niosoty M Baptista Paparella.

Hi Niosoty M, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Venezuela and graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela as a Licensed Psychologist. I migrated to the U.S, and after completing other requirements, I obtained a license to practice psychology as a Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA), and I have been providing mental health services for more than 20 years.

I facilitated parenting education at SafeChild in Raleigh, NC, to prevent child abuse and improve interpersonal relationships between parents and children. Later, I transitioned to the clinical setting as a member of the Latino Mental Health Team at Wake County Human Services and provided services to adults primarily. 12 years ago, I was fortunate to open my own private Practice, NIO Psychological Services, in the town of Fuquay Varina. Starting a private practice was a big challenge, and nowadays I have a steady flow of referrals from multiple pediatric and psychiatric settings and hospitals around NC.

I provide services to school-age children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. My strength as a bilingual and bicultural psychologist allows me to help minority populations in need of mental health services. The journey has been amazing, not to deny the stress associated with paperwork, but in my view, I feel privileged to help others and enjoy observing personal improvement in the human beings with whom I am crossing paths. I have learned significantly from patients, and understanding each one’s history is my passion. I have been providing services to children in foster care and victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, and those experiencing trauma.

I am convinced that touching the lives of each client with love, compassion, and lifting their dignity, helping each one develop a sense of self, and acknowledging their rights to be happy and feel accepted is a beautiful mission rather than a job. I aim for professional excellence and opportunities to be better every day.

In a personal note, I have been happily married for the last 29 years, and keep counting, and I am a proud mother of two adorable adult children, who have achieved college degrees and continue pursuing their dreams. I love my culture, and I enjoy sharing with my big family, dancing, cooking, gardening, and walking in nature. I am here to love and serve.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I was a licensed psychologist in my country, Venezuela, one of the biggest struggles initially was to obtain my License to practice Psychology in the US.
I studied for a master’s degree online, which was never accepted in NC. After a few years, I persisted in my dream and returned to graduate school for a Master’s in Psychology with a Clinical emphasis at North Carolina Central University.

During those years, I was a full-time employee, a full-time graduate student, and a mother of two children younger than 10 years. Yes, it was very challenging, but I did it. The unconditional support from my husband and extended family was critical to help me obtain my license in the US.

We’ve been impressed with NIO Psychological Services, PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
New Ideas and Options – NIO Psychological Services was founded in 2013. This is a solo practice, and I am the owner and Clinical Director. It is conveniently located in the town of Fuquay Varina, 30 minutes from Raleigh and near several towns like Holly Springs, Apex, Cary, Angier, Willow Springs, Garner, and surrounding areas.

I provide psychological services, in person and by telehealth, to clients 7 years old and up. I offer individual therapy, family therapy, couples therapy, psychological evaluations, parenting education, and psychoeducation. I provide services to schools, completing psychoeducational evaluations for students and participating in IEP meetings to develop plans of intervention at school.

I am known for being a bilingual and bicultural psychologist who provides services to a wide range of individuals, including the Spanish-speaking / Hispanic population. I am competent in providing culturally sensitive services to Latinos. Being a Hispanic professional in the field of mental health continues to be a great need in our community, considering our current demographic characteristics.

I provide services to individuals from a wide range of ethnicities, including the minority population, and I am in-network with multiple medical insurances, including Medicaid.

I work with clients experiencing mood disorders, anxiety disorders, behavioral disorders, children and adults with ADHD, trauma and stress problems, acculturation issues, couples with marital problems, and victims of domestic violence, as well as clients experiencing the normal stress of life.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
As a child, I was very active in arts, music, and sports. I used to dance with my siblings in a children’s dance group called ” Las Estrellas del Futuro”. We were presenting recitals in multiple public events. I studied piano for almost 10 years and was always interested in music. I practice several sports like tennis, swimming, and I was very competitive in bicycle motocross (BMX).

As an adult, I continue enjoying art and have developed a passion for pottery. I enjoy dancing to Latin music, cooking for my family, and traveling.
