Today we’d like to introduce you to Irina Myachkin.
Hi Irina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been in music for a long time. I’ve been singing and teaching here and there. And once I had my own kids and they reached the age of two and four, I noticed that they started absorbing much more information, including music around them. And I felt since I’ve always had that urge to share my musical knowledge with others, I was already spilling:), that it is the perfect time for me to start teaching group music lessons specifically to young children.
So it started in my living room with my own kids and then my friend’s kids joined and then a good rental place was found and in just a couple of months I’ve established my own little music studio and claimed it as a business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was a smooth start, which helped me build confidence and keep my motivation going. But along the road, of course, there were and still are problems which need to be addressed. Besides choosing and developing materials, finding students, keeping the students with you, one of the most important problems that every entrepreneur needs to solve is to define what it is exactly that you want to share and focus on that without pulverizing around – distilling your expertise and bringing it to the people in the most understandable and accessible way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My Tender Voice is a music studio where learning begins as early as age three. We offer group and private lessons in voice, piano, and general music for all ages.
Early childhood education is at the heart of what we do. We believe it is essential for healthy development and should be supported in communities around the world. Many families today are not exposed to much music—especially high-quality music—and many children grow up without hearing their parents sing. Our mission is to give every child the opportunity to explore themselves through music, because it plays an important role in brain development, building neural connections, and fine-tuning cognitive and emotional growth.
But does this mean that every child must become a musician?
Of course not—just like not every child who plays sports becomes a professional athlete. Yet, if a child had no physical activity at all until the age of ten, it would clearly affect their coordination, balance, and overall development.
The same applies to music. Even if a child never performs on stage, early exposure to music deeply shapes the brain. It strengthens memory, focus, creativity, and emotional intelligence. Music nurtures self-expression, confidence, and joy—qualities that support children throughout their lives.
At My Tender Voice, we believe every child deserves this chance—to grow through music, discover their voice, and learn to express their tender, unique self.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve always been a risk-taker. I tend to take risks in my personal life rather than in business, but I feel that time is coming when I’ll expand my area of influence.
In business, my risks have been smaller—like renting a studio space before I had any students signed up, or leaving or declining a comfortable position to focus on building my own. And as you know, walking your own path is not as streamlined.
When I was a teenager, I heard a phrase that stuck with me: “It’s better to try and regret it than to regret never trying.”
That mindset has guided me ever since.
