Check Out Arwen Gibson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arwen Gibson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Throughout my life I have always wanted to learn everything I could about how things work and why. I am independent and resourceful, and frequently use that to help others achieve their goals. My whole life has been leading up to being a real estate agent. I worked at a pest control company; crawling houses and attics, learning about moisture control, termites, insulation, and over all care of a home. I am originally from New Bern, NC, so my knowledge of the area was already solidified, but I then worked for the USPS delivering mail which gave me a new insight to neighborhoods. Most of my professional career has been in customer service, however, which truly taught me the value of connecting with people. Salesperson has never been a position I wanted, or embraced, even now. My job is not sales. My job is to be an advocate, a confidant, a resource, an advisor.
I’m here because a home is the most valuable thing a person will every own and I want to be the reason they get exactly what they’re looking for.
The best part of Real Estate is that it provides a flexible schedule for me to raise my two incredible kids. As a single mother that time is precious to me and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to have the time with them that I do.
We love animals and foster for the humane society, so our house is a rotating door of furry friends. My kids help me craft and support me when I take my art to the local vendor fairs. They care so much about others and we support each other always. They are my foundation and the reason I work as hard as I do. I could fill this entire page with the things I love about them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
After acing the NC real estate exam I did face obstacles in my new position. Taking the course is one thing, but living it and having people rely on you to guide them through the process is a whole new ballgame. I felt very alone in the beginning. I did not have anyone willing to truly show me the ropes of the business and my experience in the first year was a real struggle. I heard a lot of “you can do it” when I would ask for help and ended up finding my own way as an independent agent instead of staying on a team. Ultimately I needed to experience the business for myself and that takes time when you do not yet have many clients. In my original training there was a lot of scripts and those did not feel genuine to me. I had to find my own voice and decide for myself what kind of business I wanted to run. I chose real connections and true resourcefulness for my clients, with no motive. After my first year I decided to change companies and make it my own. I have now been with my new company for two years and am finally running the business how I want to.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an independent Real Estate Agent/Realtor
My business is simply helping people with their Real Estate transactions. I do not sell you a house – I help you find a home.

I love to be creative! I do my own marketing and I believe it sets me apart from the rest. I am always thinking outside of the box to find new ways to help people with their specific needs. No two transactions are the same and it takes true creativity to find solutions to each unique obstacle. Where some see a wall, I see a door.

My goal in each transaction is to learn enough about my clients to give them a truly unique and memorable closing gift (when appropriate). It’s the personal touch that matters. People want to feel seen, heard, and understood.

I am known for my plants, macrame, crystal window hangers, etc., as they are often incorporated for the personal handmade touch. I put thought and effort into everything I do. Whimsy is important and even work can be fun.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I was unable to find a true mentor, unfortunately, which is why I try to be one for anyone coming into the business, or needing a new insight.
Networking to me is simply starting conversations with strangers! I like to give back to my community in small ways that create relationships. I give away duck food at the river, volunteer at a community garden, foster animals, and build for Habitat for Humanity, and attend as many community events as possible. While it’s known what I do, it’s important to me to never push real estate on anyone. If you want to work with me it’s because you see my work ethic and genuine care, and you simply have a real estate need!
