Today we’d like to introduce you to Ajaunie White.
Hi Ajaunie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been fascinated by computers and the internet, how things work behind the scenes and the potential to create something from nothing. Back in middle school, I was looking for ways to make some extra money, but I was too young to get a traditional job. That’s when I discovered web development.
I started by building a website for my mom’s tutoring business. It was a learning experience, but seeing something I created actually help her business was incredibly rewarding. From there, things grew organically. She referred me to other business owners, and they referred me to others. I realized there was a real need for affordable, quality websites among local businesses that didn’t have huge marketing budgets.
What started as a side project in middle school turned into a real business. I’ve been building websites for local businesses not just in North Carolina, but for clients around the world. It’s taught me so much about entrepreneurship, client relationships, and the technical skills that go beyond just coding.
Now I’m 18 and a senior in computer science at NC State University, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next. The combination of hands-on business experience and formal education has been invaluable, and I’m grateful I took that first step back in middle school.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges early on was just being taken seriously as a middle schooler trying to run a business. Some potential clients were hesitant to trust a kid with their company’s online presence, which I totally understood. I had to work twice as hard to prove myself and deliver results that spoke for themselves.
Another struggle was balancing everything. Between school, homework, extracurriculars, and client work, time management became critical. There were times when I had multiple projects due at once and had to figure out how to prioritize without letting anyone down. Learning to set realistic timelines and communicate clearly with clients was huge.
The technical side had its challenges too. When something broke or a client wanted a feature I’d never built before, I had to figure it out on my own. There’s no manual for running a web development business as a teenager, so a lot of it was trial and error, late nights troubleshooting code, and learning from mistakes.
And honestly, pricing was tough at first. I wanted to keep things affordable, but I also had to value my time and skills appropriately. Finding that balance took a while, and I probably undercharged for some of my early work.
But each challenge taught me something valuable that I still use today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My company is called ENC Creative, and we specialize in building modern, professional websites for local businesses along with a full range of digital and marketing services.
What really sets us apart is our attention to detail and commitment to creating websites that actually work for our clients. We’re not just throwing together a template and calling it a day. Every site we build is optimized for search engines, mobile-friendly, and designed with the user experience in mind. In an era where AI tools and DIY website builders like GoDaddy are everywhere, we’re proud to offer something different: a personalized approach with real human support.
Our clients get 24/7 support, which is something you just don’t get with automated platforms. When something needs to be updated or fixed, they’re not navigating through help forums or talking to a chatbot. They’re talking directly to us.
While websites are our core service, we’ve expanded to offer graphic design, custom merchandise, marketing strategy, vehicle wraps, and more. The goal has always been to be a one-stop shop for local businesses that need a strong, cohesive brand presence but don’t have the budget for a massive agency.
What I’m most proud of is that we’ve managed to carve out our space in a crowded market by genuinely caring about our clients’ success and delivering quality work that helps their businesses grow.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’d say adaptability is the most important quality to my success. In web development and digital marketing, things are constantly changing. New technologies emerge, design trends shift, search engine algorithms get updated, and client needs evolve. If you can’t adapt quickly, you fall behind.
But adaptability goes beyond just the technical side. Every client is different. Some know exactly what they want, others need guidance. Some projects go smoothly, others hit unexpected roadblocks. Being able to pivot, problem-solve on the fly, and adjust my approach based on the situation has been crucial.
Starting this business young also required adaptability. I had to learn not just how to code, but how to communicate professionally, manage client expectations, handle finances, and market myself. None of that came naturally at first, but being willing to learn and adjust as I went made all the difference.
I think that mindset of “figure it out as you go” has served me well. When a client asks for something I’ve never done before, instead of saying no, I say yes and then learn how to do it. That willingness to adapt and grow with each challenge is what’s allowed the business to expand from just websites to the full range of services we offer now.
