Hidden Gems: Meet Flo Jacques of The Flo Estates brokered by eXp Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Flo Jacques.

Hi Flo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the real estate industry wasn’t long planned — much like most of the things I’ve pursued in life. As a teenager, I would map out the next five years of my life — my career, focus, and goals. Real estate and entrepreneurship, however, were never part of that vision. I was sold the American Dream, and as an immigrant from the Caribbean, we believed that a college degree was the sole path to success.

So, my journey began in education and counseling. I earned my Bachelor’s in Sociology and my Master’s in Education Counseling because I’ve always been passionate about people, growth, and purpose. But shortly after graduation, I realized I wanted more than just one paycheck — I wanted financial freedom. Over time, God began to reveal that my purpose wasn’t confined to the career path I was in — it was connected to helping people build freedom, legacy, and ownership. That’s when I became a real estate broker, born out of my own desire to invest in real estate.

In 2021, I felt a clear nudge from God to pursue real estate. I remember spending a week where everywhere I went, real estate kept coming up — overhearing conversations at Panera Bread, in the bathroom at church, even from a pest control customer service rep. It was undeniable: I was being called into the industry. I got licensed in March 2022 and joined The Wealthy Group powered by eXp Realty. From there, I founded The Flo Estates, LLC, a firm brokered by eXp Realty that allows me to merge my passion for people with my gifts for strategy and vision. Within my first few years, I not only helped clients buy and sell homes but also began investing myself. Today, I’m a local real estate investor and teach others how to get started in real estate investing.

But my story isn’t just about real estate — it’s about obedience, discipline, and transformation. I went from trying to “figure things out” to building multiple income streams, leading community events under The Triangle Wealthy Group, and creating my upcoming Real Estate Investing Playbook to help others do the same. I love my local community, which is why I serve as a Cary Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Chair of the Education Committee for the Triangle Board of Realtist, and a member and volunteer with the North Carolina Real Estate Investors Association (NCREIA).

Everything I’ve built is centered around faith. God has been my CEO from day one. Every property, every client, and every opportunity has been an act of faith and stewardship. My mission now is to show others — especially women and aspiring entrepreneurs — that you can build wealth, impact, and freedom without ever compromising your values.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The only thing that was smooth was real estate school. I loved every bit of it — I dug my head deep into the content and passed on the first try! But once I got licensed, reality hit. I didn’t close my first deal until seven months in the game, and it was tough. The ongoing comparison and desire to reach “top producer” status immediately was real. It was hard to see that all the effort — the marketing, networking, social media, and follow-up — didn’t always lead to results. That season challenged my faith in a major way.

I’m someone who naturally pursues opportunity, so early on, I realized it was easier to find rental clients than buyers or sellers. In that first stretch, I closed nine rental transactions — but rental deals in our market pay very little, sometimes around $100 in commission. In the Triangle, most people find rentals without a Realtor, so I was hustling hard for minimal return.

At one point, I had five rental clients all struggling with credit scores between 525–550, getting denied everywhere. It became overwhelming carrying the emotional weight of people’s housing needs — one client ended up in a hotel with his family, another couldn’t register his kids for school because he didn’t have a residential address, and others simply didn’t know what to do next. It broke my heart.

That was the first time I had to set real boundaries — I had to “break up” with all five renters who were counting on me to make magic happen. It was painful but necessary. That season taught me so much — about stewardship, emotional boundaries, and focusing my energy where I could truly create impact.

I dug deeper in prayer and was reminded that God provides. Each year since, I’ve closed more deals than the year before and walked away with lessons that go far beyond business. Entrepreneurship will always stretch you, but faith keeps you grounded in the process.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Flo Estates brokered by eXp Realty?
My firm, The Flo Estates, LLC, is brokered by eXp Realty and built on one simple mission: helping individuals and families build freedom, legacy, and ownership through real estate. I serve clients across the Triangle and surrounding areas, guiding them through buying, selling, and investing with strategy and confidence.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just help people close deals — I help them create a financial strategy. For some, that means exploring down payment assistance programs to improve buying power in a rising market. For others — maybe they’re earning $150K a year but spending every dollar and stuck paying $2,500 a month in rent — it’s about shifting mindset. We might pursue 100% financing on a $400K home, or connect them with credit counseling (not “credit repair”) to develop real skills for managing credit wisely. There’s a key difference — I believe most Americans lack the financial education needed to become qualified buyers. Many think closing accounts or disputing everything on their report helps, when in reality, it often hurts.

I specialize in residential sales, investment properties, and mid-term rentals, but my mission is larger — education and empowerment. Through my workshops and community events with The Triangle Wealthy Group, I help people learn how to build wealth, steward it well, and create a legacy of ownership for generations to come.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My entire career in real estate began as a risk — a faith move. Leaving the security of the 9-to-5 W-2 life and giving up my plan to earn a Doctorate in Education wasn’t easy, but I knew the power of real estate. A salary is finite, but the opportunities as an entrepreneur are infinite. I decided I’d rather bet it all on me — because I live with a fire inside that refuses to settle.

One of the biggest risks I ever took was purchasing two investment properties just 30 days apart. That’s not something I’d recommend to any new investor — but I survived it, learned from it, and came out stronger. No matter how many times I fall or lose, if I believe in something, I’m going back in. Experience has been my best teacher — and yes, she can be very expensive at times.

I don’t believe in mistakes; I believe in lessons. My desire to build wealth has always been stronger than my fear of failure. That mindset has carried me through every challenge, reminding me that faith and risk are often the same — the only difference is your belief in what’s possible.
