Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew And Sarah Britt, DMD.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Dr. Matthew Britt hails from Greenville, NC and graduated from Eastern Carolina University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and minor in Chemistry. He continued his studies at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, acquiring his D.M.D., then reported for active duty as he entered his commitment to the U.S. Navy. He received extensive training in oral surgery, serving as an Exodontist on base at Great Lakes naval recruit training facility in IL then most recently at Camp Lejeune, NC, totaling five years.
A California native, Dr. Sarah Britt graduated from the University of California at Davis with a B.S. in Nutrition Science with a Biochemistry emphasis and swam freestyle for their Division I collegiate team (go Aggies!). She then continued her studies at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where she earned her D.M.D. before returning to CA to complete a one-year post-doctoral Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program with UCSF-NYU. She was most recently in private practice in Jacksonville, NC.
Drs. Matt and Sarah were thrilled to join then acquire Dr. Jeffrey Cecil’s practice of over 40 years and set up their family dental practice, serving the fine folks of Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and the surrounding areas.
On the weekends, you’ll find Matt and Sarah enjoying the outdoors with their two young children Emma and Kevin.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path to business ownership has not been an easy one, and we are learning more about ourselves and each other in the process. After dental school, Sarah and Matt continued their relationship long-distance, as Matt embarked on his military obligations while Sarah returned to CA to complete her residency program and practice with her dad, a general dentist, before he retired. That chapter came to a close but a new and exciting one opened when they moved together to the Chicago area, Matt’s orders taking them there then back to NC at Camp Lejeune, Sarah finding work along the way and beginning a family of their own. As Matt’s separation from the Navy neared, the two searched for opportunities to own a dental practice — either start one from scratch, or find one with a retiring dentist that fulfilled a long list of desires. They stumbled upon Dr. Cecil’s practice through a mutual acquaintance, and soon realized it was mutually a good fit. Then came uprooting their lives in Jacksonville, NC to move the Triangle and navigate the unsure, risky waters that laid ahead. No better way to learn the intricacies of business ownership while meeting and getting to know the many wonderful patients at the practice than to dive in head first — their well-established staff helped enormously with the transition!

Drs. Matthew and Sarah Britt have acquired the long-standing general dentistry practice run by Dr. Jeffrey Cecil which was established over 40 years ago — Independence Park Dental Arts. We are a family owned and operated.
We take pride in serving all ages for routine dental care (cleanings, exams, imagery), comprehensive restorative care (fillings/bonding, same-day or conventional crowns, bridges, implant crowns), whitening, root canal treatments, prosthetics such as partial dentures and complete dentures (conventional and implant-supported), and sedation for treatment. Oral surgery services include simple extractions, surgical extractions (including impacted wisdom teeth and canines), endosteal implant placements, guided bone regeneration, ridge augmentation, socket preservation, free gingival grafts, connective tissue grafting, biopsy of hard or soft tissue, frenectomy, and closure of oroantral fistulas. We have a strong referral base for more complex procedures.
