Khiana of Charlotte on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Khiana and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Khiana , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me from the time I open my eyes is normally saying a prayer over any and everything before touching my phone, waking up my children are getting my day started. Some days ( on a good day ) haha I’d be up before the kids and have time to gather myself before they wake up. I like to take a shower get dressed and if I’m lucky have time to go downstairs and prepare breakfast for the little ones. If it’s a school day I have to make their lunches because I like them to be made in the morning. After breakfast is made and lunches are packed I get the girls up and start our morning routine before taking them to school and preschool. Once everyone is dropped off I head home to do my Bible study before I get to my meetings, emails and editing videos. I like to do something throughout the day while the kids are in school whether it’s brunch with the girls or a simple spa day to relax. My youngest goes to half day school so me time is limited to 4 hours haha. I’m very big on one on one time with each girl so when I pick her up we have us time. After I pick up my oldest from school and head up after she does homework we play until it’s time to eat ( somehow I’ve mastered cooking dinner while they’re at school ) after dinner it’s time for bath and I put my youngest to bed so me and my oldest can have our one on one alone time together.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Khiana Brown. I’m a mom of two. Aubrei age seven and Ariyah age two. These are my two main reasons for absolutely everything I do. I am an entrepreneur who does social media marketing for brands and companies to showcase their products and services. I’ve been doing this for several years and I absolutely love what I do. It allows me to have more than enough time, enjoying my children’s childhood as well as having the balance of being able to enjoy who I am outside of being a mom. I eventually want to use my platform to create a nonprofit organization for Moms to be able to easily find resources when they need them. Right now there’s so many moms that need help with childcare, food, finding work balance, jobs, etc., and they don’t know where to look. I was there before and it was absolutely frustrating. I want to be able to provide the resources that I wish were available when I needed them!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
One thing I believed as a child is my voice doesn’t matter, but as I grow, I come to realize the influence I have on others especially young moms, entrepreneurial moms, and moms just trying to make it another day. I realize that showing my authentic reality allows mothers to know that it’s okay to go through certain situations in motherhood and know that you’re not alone I’ve received countless messages, emails, DMS on Instagram. All letting me know how powerful the things in which I think are small really are . Sometimes your life struggles aren’t for you. It’s for someone else to hear so that they know they can come out of it.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Everything you’re going through now is just a story being written for someone who needs to read it, to get to their next chapter!

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That once you start content creating all of your income and financial stress will go away. No one talks about how once you get brand deals it becomes more stressful. For example, yes you can get a $30,000 brand deal but what if they don’t pay you on time and the past few months have been slow with no brand deals…

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
This is a great question because in my field, I cannot tell you the amount of times you want to give up. But the things that I will miss are currently the things that keep me going for example, the community! The online community family that you build is beyond what you feel from the community you know in real life sometimes they encourage you, they have your back, and they want to see the best for you. Most of your community have watched you grow from nothing to where you are today they clap for you, they cheer for you, they root for you daily. That would truly be missed when I decide that this is no longer the path that’s for me.
