Life & Work with Shannon Lesane of Raleigh, NC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Lesane.

Shannon Lesane

Shannon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been drawn to words, the way they carry emotion, memory, and truth. Growing up in East Arcadia, a small community in rural Bladen County, North Carolina, I learned early the importance of faith, family, and perseverance. After high school, I joined the United States Air Force, where I began my college journey while serving, got married, and became a mother. The Air Force taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of teamwork which continue to shape how I lead and live.

After completing four years of service, I continued my education, ultimately earning a Master’s degree from East Carolina University. Along the way, I built a career in project management, working my way through nearly every level of the profession to my current role as Vice President of a Project Management Office at a high-tech software company. I’ve also had the privilege of owning and operating my own project management consulting business, helping organizations build new PMOs, develop processes, and achieve their strategic goals.

While my professional life has been deeply fulfilling, writing has always remained my constant. In March of this year, I achieved a longtime personal goal by publishing my first book, Jagged Edges: A Journey Through Love, Reflection, and Forgiveness. I continue to write in my free time and am currently working on additional projects that reflect my love for storytelling, growth, and connection. Each chapter of my journey, both personally and professionally, has taught me that purpose and passion can coexist when you stay true to who you are.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been meaningful. Growing up in the South, in a close-knit community, I learned early that true strength comes from having faith and believing in a higher power or purpose. It became the foundation for how I faced every obstacle that came my way.

Becoming a wife and mother at a young age was one of my first major tests. Balancing family, personal growth, and ambition was not easy. It required patience, grace, and a deep sense of perseverance. It taught me how to evolve without losing sight of who I am.

Joining the United States Air Force added a whole new dimension to my journey. Until then, I had never been away from home for an extended period. I was naïve and shy, but the experience challenged me in ways that strengthened my confidence and self-esteem. I learned the value of discipline, accountability, and teamwork, lessons that continue to shape my leadership today. More importantly, I discovered how to create a safe space for myself, persevere through uncertainty, and trust both my abilities and the people around me.

Leading teams and building programs in my career has been both fulfilling and demanding. There were times I had to prove myself, earn trust, and create my own seat at the table when one wasn’t offered. Through every high and low, my faith in God and the strong foundation of my upbringing have grounded me, giving me the strength to keep moving forward with purpose and integrity.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a creative leader who blends strategy with storytelling to inspire teams and deliver measurable results. As Vice President at a leading software company, I oversee the Project Management Office, where I build structures, guide initiatives, and transform vision into action. Throughout my career, I’ve helped organizations establish new PMOs from the ground up, including recruiting teams, defining processes, and driving operational excellence. I also led my own project management consulting firm, helping clients implement technology solutions supported by sustainable workflows and measurable outcomes.

Beyond my corporate leadership, I am the proud author of Jagged Edges: A Journey Through Love, Reflection, and Forgiveness, a small collection of poetry and short stories written over the course of my life. It is a thoughtful and sincere collection, dedicated to my daughter, who recently became a mother herself. If you enjoy honest, heartfelt writing, it is well worth adding to your collection. The book is available for purchase on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers such as Lulu.com.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can connect and collaborate with me in a few ways. Professionally, I’m always open to partnerships focused on building strong teams, developing leadership, or creating project management structures that help organizations succeed. I’ve helped companies build PMOs from the ground up and led initiatives that strengthen strategy, execution, and customer success.

Creatively, I love connecting with readers, writers, and fellow creatives who are drawn to stories of resilience, healing, and personal growth. My book, Jagged Edges: A Journey Through Love, Reflection, and Forgiveness, has sparked meaningful conversations about life, purpose, and faith. I welcome opportunities to share that message through collaboration, speaking, or community engagement.
