Exploring Life & Business with Rebecca Wagner of This Mom Buys Land

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Wagner.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up knowing the value of hard work. Coming from humble beginnings, I spent much of my childhood helping my mom raise my siblings and learning early what responsibility and perseverance really mean. At 14, I got my first job.. and by age 17, I was working three jobs, while attending high school.

By the time I graduated high school, I knew I wanted more out of life — more opportunity, more freedom, and more stability for my family. But like many, my path wasn’t easy. I found myself working 40 hours a week, financially struggling, and completely exhausted — all while pregnant with my second child. That was my turning point. I realized I was ready to leave corporate America behind and create something that would give my family the life we deserved.

Together with my husband, I took a leap of faith into real estate investing with him— and it changed everything. What started as a dream quickly became a thriving real estate operation that continues to grow and create lasting impact for our family and our community.

Recently, I launched a new venture called This Mom Buys Land, where I focus on purchasing land parcels across North Carolina that are zoned for mobile homes. I currently manage four ongoing projects and am continuously adding new opportunities to our pipeline.

Every step of this journey — from humble beginnings to entrepreneurship — has been fueled by determination, faith, and a commitment to building a better life. My mission now is simple: to keep growing, keep learning, and keep creating opportunities for others to do the same.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey into real estate wasn’t glamorous — it was built on grit, faith, and sheer determination. When I first started, we had no money to excel, no mentor to guide us, and no real roadmap to follow. All I had was a vision for a better life for my family and the willingness to work through anything to make it happen.

Growing a company from the ground up when you’re starting with nothing is one of the hardest things you can do. There were days when I didn’t know how we’d pay the bills, and moments when I felt completely alone trying to figure it all out. Every setback felt personal, every small win felt like survival.

Then came the shifts in the real estate market — the kind that test everything you’ve built. There was a time when things got so bad that we ended up homeless. We lost nearly everything, but even in those moments, we refused to give up. We had kids counting on us, and a future I wasn’t willing to let go of.

There have been seasons where we’ve had nothing in our bank account, wondering how we’d make it through the week — and other seasons where everything we’ve worked for finally paid off and we were thriving. The rollercoaster of entrepreneurship is real, and it tests you in ways you never expect.

When real estate slows down, it doesn’t just affect the business — it can affect your home, your mindset, and your marriage. There were times when the stress nearly broke us. But those hard moments also taught us resilience, teamwork, and the importance of faith when everything feels uncertain.

I can’t count how many times I’ve thought about going back to corporate America — to the comfort of a steady paycheck and predictable days. But every time I’ve considered it, I’ve reminded myself why I started. I wanted freedom. I wanted purpose. I wanted to show my kids that even when life gets hard, you don’t quit.

So I stayed the course. I remained consistent. I learned, adapted, and kept showing up — even when it felt impossible. And that consistency is what changed everything.

Today, our real estate operation is thriving, and I’ve recently launched This Mom Buys Land, but I’ll never forget where I came from, or the battles it took to get here.

Because behind every success story is a chapter full of struggle — and mine is proof that no matter how many times you fall, you can always rebuild.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about This Mom Buys Land?
We specialize in providing real solutions for property owners across North Carolina — and beyond. Our mission is simple: to help people get out of stressful real estate situations while creating opportunities for new growth and development.

We purchase land parcels all over North Carolina, with a special focus on properties zoned for mobile homes. Whether you own a small rural lot or multiple acres, we make the selling process fast, transparent, and hassle-free.

In addition to land, we also buy problematic and distressed properties throughout North Carolina and across the country. We work with sellers facing all kinds of challenges, including:

Tax delinquent properties

Inherited or probate properties

Homes with liens or judgments

Short sales and pre-foreclosures

Properties in need of major repairs or completely falling apart

Tired or exhausted landlords ready to move on

No matter the situation, we handle it all. We pride ourselves on providing fair offers, quick closings, and solutions that help sellers move forward with peace of mind.

If you have a property you no longer want, can’t manage, or simply need to sell fast — I’m your buyer.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s that growth doesn’t happen in comfort. Every major turning point in my life came from taking a risk — from leaving a stable job to chase freedom, to diving into real estate with no guarantee of success.

Taking risks is absolutely necessary if you want to reach a new level in your life. It’s uncomfortable, it’s scary, and sometimes the unknowns can feel paralyzing. But the truth is, if you’re not willing to bet on yourself, you’ll stay exactly where you are — and I’ve never been okay with settling.

Risk is where growth lives. It’s where you discover what you’re really made of. Every time I’ve stepped into uncertainty, I’ve come out stronger, smarter, and more determined than before.

I’ve learned to embrace being uncomfortable, because comfort breeds complacency — and I refuse to stop evolving. I’ll always stay uncomfortable, always keep stretching myself, always keep taking the next leap.

Because playing it safe never built anything great. And the life I’m building requires courage, faith, and a willingness to take the kind of risks that most people run from.
