Exploring Life & Business with Stephen Tassy of Crowned Enterprises

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Tassy.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I never anticipated being an entrepreneur. I wanted to work as a cultural anthropologist, but ended up in construction after graduating from NC State. Over the years I learned carpentry for residential spaces, and got to connect with a lot of great folks in the industry here in the Triangle. Thinking deeply on affordable housing swayed me into the transactional side of real estate, where I am today. I provide real estate consultation, construction, and realty services for anyone looking for a residence near the Triangle, and am passionate about connecting a person with a need to a person with a solution.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had my share of obstacles in the real estate business, as every transaction has it’s own surprises and ups and downs. I can honestly say I’ve felt supported and guided throughout the process of my career. I guess no one wants to hear that having a business is too smooth a road, but I love getting to research and negotiate and provide exceptional service, and beyond that I’m grateful for the life I live. I think a tough challenge for me has been marketing myself. Finding a way to authentically promote what I do as a relatively young Realtor, owner, and real estate investor can be a hurdle. But in order to support the people I work with and to better myself at my work, I get to embrace opportunities like this magazine to ensure I can serve the most people possible.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a real estate service business. We provide realty services for residential and small multifamily properties, specializing in helping folks who have never bought or sold in North Carolina – whether that be first time homebuyers or people from out of town. We also provide consultation services and connections to a broad range of experts from savvy lenders and attorneys to reliable HVAC and handymen. My experience with local construction gives me nearly a decade of hands on experience with building houses as well as knowing the people who work on houses. I’ve worked with dozens of investors and helped create paths for success for their respective portfolios and businesses. If there was one thing I’d want people to know, it’s that I’m available to listen. If someone has a real estate need, I’m here to help you find the solution.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
What a great question. When it comes to resources that help me do my best at life, I place high priorities on things that enhance my body, my finances, my spirit, and my mind. I read and listen to the Bible often, as well as other spiritual writers like Andrew Murray, Watchman Nee, Alexia Salvatierra, Vince Bantu, Dallas Willard, and Henri Nouwen. I get a lot of information from Youtube, the Triangle Business Journal, and the Wall Street Journal, often with a focus on real estate. I also enjoy reading books on money – the theory, the making, and the giving – by authors like Bob Lotich, William Macaskill, Felix Dennis, and Chris Voss. Some of my most beloved apps are Google Sheets for all things business and personal, Macrofactor and Paprika for food, and Wanderlog for travel.

I’ll share two new things have been enhancing my life recently. One is an app called Focus Keeper that allows me to clock what I’m doing throughout the day and keep track of where my time is going. I’m of the belief that what’s measured improves. The second is Libby, which allows me to listen to audiobooks while I drive. I’ve been rediscovering a love for fiction through Libby recently, as fiction allows my imagination to soar while my stress is jettisoned.
