Daily Inspiration: Meet Kristen Votta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Votta.

Hi Kristen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely!
My undergraduate and graduate degrees are all in the field of education, special education or literacy education. I was a resource classroom teacher for a middle school when the pandemic hit, like all schools. We moved to a virtual learning situation.

I started receiving dozens of emails from concerned parents about the clear gaps they felt like their student had in their learning.

I realized that even the students with IEP and 504 plan support services we’re not receiving enough to overcome some of these achievement gaps.

That’s when the idea of Raleigh Educational Coaching started.

I’ve been an athlete and a coach for almost my whole life. I wanted to combine my passion for academic intervention with my love for coaching.

The result has been a unique approach to helping the greater triangle families navigate their child’s specific educational needs.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like all small business owners, we’ve had to navigate our fair share of bumps in the road.

We’ve had to overcome big obstacles like COVID-19 pandemic related challenges to smaller issues, such as learning how to navigate operating a small business.

We were able to find success in the end because I’ve built such a strong team of highly educated driven and motivated women.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Raleigh Educational Coaching’s biggest differentiator is that we aim to develop strong, long lasting relationships with the students and families that we work with.

We take the time to develop these connections so that we’re better able to serve the unique needs of the individuals that come to us.

Our process is very customizable. Every experience begins with a client evaluation with which a customized plan is developed to help the student and their families achieve their goals.

We continue to maintain meaningful relationships long after students have graduated our program.

We offer a wide variety of services ranging from individual tutoring in all academic areas to special education advocacy for our families who are navigating the 504 and IEP process. We work with students from kindergarten through 12th grade offering a comprehensive end to end support on families education educational journeys.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Empathy, courage and passion. For me, the mission of my company is very personal. I have a neurodivergent child with whom I’ve had to navigate through the challenges of education. I have watched as my child has struggled for years attempt attempting to complete tasks that other students were able to do in the blink of an eye.

I have a deep understanding on a very personal level of what the students and the families that I work with are going through. I use that to fuel my ambition to help get them the services that they need so that their student can be successful.
