Hidden Gems: Meet Tara White of Soltara Fertility & Pregnancy Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara White.

Hi Tara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I gave birth to my first child in 2012. I was woefully uneducated, unprepared, and ended up with a fairly traumatic experience which left me feeling like surely, if I had known more or done things differently I would have had a better outcome. So, I began reading and learning as much as I could about pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum recovery. When I conceived my second child a year later, I made many different choices and had a beautiful birth experience with a very smooth recovery. This time I was left feeling powerful, strong, and just on top of the world. I immediately knew I wanted to share the things I had learned with others, to help them avoid the mistakes I made during my first pregnancy so they could avoid the trauma and have an amazing, empowering birth experience the first time.

I completed my first Birth Doula training in April of 2014 and never looked back. Now, I serve approximately 40 clients per year from pre-conception through the first year postpartum.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a Birth Doula means living an “on-call” lifestyle. I have to be ready to drop everything and go join a client in labor. Learning to set up the rest of my life to make that possible was definitely a challenge. I am also a wife and homeschooling mother of 5 kids. I became a doula when my second child was only 6 months old, so there was also the additional challenge of arranging for on-call childcare. Now, my husband and I have been blessed to make Doula work our family’s sole source of income for the past year and a half, so we work together to care for the children and the household. When I am called to join a client, I may be gone only a few hours, or a few days, so it is still not without it’s challenges, but we really love the overall flexibility of working for ourselves and being able to do something I am passionate about.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Soltara Fertility & Pregnancy Services?
I am a Fertility Educator and Birth Doula specializing in Body Mechanics. I work with women and couples from pre-conception through early postpartum helping them optimize their fertility for conception, providing education and emotional support throughout pregnancy, in-person labor and delivery support, and postpartum education and recovery guidance. I am currently pursuing a Corrective Exercise certification to expand my Body Mechanics knowledge. The way we breathe, sit, stand, and move during pregnancy has a direct impact on our birth experience, as well as our postpartum recovery. I aim to help my clients have the information to make knowledgeable lifestyle choices. I don’t care if my clients get an epidural or not, vaccinate their baby or not. I do care very much that they are well informed of ALL their choices so they can feel confident in their decision making process. How can you feel like you are making the best choice for your baby if you don’t know what the options are, or haven’t been informed of all the potential risks and benefits? I aim to share unbiased, evidence based information with my clients and then help them have the experience they have decided would be best for them. I have extensive experience supporting high risk, advanced maternal age, and VBAC clients.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up on a small family farm in Youngsville, NC and am blessed to live and raise my children on the same property. I was largely homeschooled, and so had a great deal of freedom to pursue my interests. I was a “tomboy” preferring to spend my time outdoors, playing in the woods, climbing trees, riding horses and 4-wheelers, or building forts. I have always been an avid reader and could often be found sitting in a tree reading for hours at a time. I began practicing taekwondo at the age of 14 and, with a break for college and early parenthood, have continued to enjoy the practice, which is something I now share with my husband and children.

The Lord brought me to saving faith in Him when I was 9 years old. My faith is an integral part of my life and I am blessed to be an active member of Stony Hill Baptist Church in Wake Forest.
