Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Watson.
Hi Jason, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cross Pointe Church has a rich history in our community, originally founded in 1933 as East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church. What began as a small congregation with a big heart has continued to grow and evolve over the decades.
After many years of prayer, planning, fund raising, sacrificial giving, and the sell of our old property, we broke ground on our new facility on December 6, 2015, and dedicated it on April 22, 2017. That season was a pivotal moment for our church family, establishing a home that would allow us to expand ministry, reach more people, and serve our city in a greater way.
I had the honor of being installed as pastor on September 22, 2020—right in the middle of COVID. My mentor and predecessor, Rev. Michael Edds, played a tremendous role in preparing the way. He helped build our new facility, cast vision, and faithfully shepherded the church through many formative years. I’m grateful to stand on the foundation he laid, and since stepping into the role, my heart has been to continue moving forward with the same commitment to biblical truth, community, and Kingdom impact.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road and it rarely is it when God is stretching you with a new vision. Like many churches, we’ve walked through seasons of transition, growing pains, and challenges that required a lot of prayer, patience, and perseverance.
Stepping into pastoral leadership during COVID brought its own unique set of obstacles. We were navigating shutdowns, rebuilding momentum, and trying to keep people connected in a time when everything felt uncertain. There were moments when the future looked unclear, but God proved Himself faithful every step of the way.
Every challenge has shaped us, strengthened our church family, and clarified our mission. So while the road hasn’t always been smooth, it has absolutely been guided and that’s what matters most.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Cross Pointe Church, our heart is to make a lasting Kingdom impact, not just inside the sanctuary, but throughout our community. Of course, we’re committed to the core work of the church: preaching the Gospel, discipling believers, building strong families, and creating an atmosphere where people can encounter Jesus. But what really sets us apart is the way God has opened doors for us to minister beyond the traditional avenues.
One of the things I’m most proud of is our school, Cross Pointe Christian Academy, led by Dr. Mary Corner and an incredible team of educators. What began as a vision to strengthen the next generation has grown into a Christ-centered school that is reaching children and their families in a unique and meaningful way. It’s been amazing to see how education can become ministry, and how God uses a school setting to transform lives.
We’ve also launched Cross Pointe Sports, led by Coach Frank Evans, which has become another powerful outreach. Through youth soccer and other community sports initiatives, we’ve created a welcoming space for families who may never step into a church, but they’ll come to a field. It’s a simple way to show the love of Christ through relationships, encouragement, and community engagement.
What sets us apart isn’t anything flashy; it’s simply our willingness to say “yes” to every opportunity God places in front of us. Whether through worship, education, sports, or outreach, our mission is the same: point people to Jesus.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Culture will keep changing, but the Truth never will. I believe the next 5–10 years will require the church to stay consistent, compassionate, and deeply authentic. People are looking for real examples of how to live out their faith in a complicated world, and that’s where the church has a powerful opportunity.
We don’t change the message, we live it. By being steady, sympathetic, and committed to reflecting Jesus in everything we do, we can continue reaching people in meaningful ways no matter how culture shifts. Our call is simple: keep the Truth the truth, and keep showing people what the life of Jesus looks like in everyday life.
