Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Moran.
Eric, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started playing guitar when I was eleven, thanks to my Dad, who’s a fantastic guitarist. Growing up, my parents introduced me to all kinds of music and I quickly fell in love with playing guitar. I studied classical & rock guitar in middle school, joined the jazz band, and spent my teen years performing in local bands, gigging with my Dad, and learning from a variety of private instructors. I even apprenticed as a Guitar & Amp Tech at a local music store to learn more about maintaining the instrument.
By seventeen I was teaching my first student and by twenty I was an instructor at summer guitar camps. I attended UNCG, earned a degree in Business Marketing, and continued performing and recording with several bands over the next decade.
In my late twenties, I shifted toward studio work—building a home recording space, doing session guitar, and eventually composing music for sync licensing; some of my work has appeared on Netflix, Amazon On-Demand, PBS, and various online projects.
In 2023 I released my self-titled album (available on all major streaming platforms) and launched a new band, The Get Go, which debuted live on FOX8 Morning News. I’m still performing live with the band and also in a duo cover project. Today I split my time between performing, recording and mostly teaching private lessons. I’m super grateful that I get to make music and talk Guitar with students every day!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are constantly struggles. Self doubt, imposter syndrome, competition, slow business seasons, etc. Everything that any Artist has to internally fight plus everything a small business owner has to endure.
Maybe the most interesting turn in my career path was how COVID was responsible for my growth in on-line lessons. When things transitioned back into in-person lessons, I had enough students to go full-time soon after. Since then I have been teaching full-time and not having to rely on other sources of income. It took me about 20 years to get to this point. I gave teaching up several times over those years because I had to focus on more reliable income but now I’ve built a system on the business end that sustains itself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Guitarist, Bassist, Recording Musician, and Private Music Teacher based in Greensboro, NC. I perform with my original Jazz/Rock/Fusion band (The Get Go) & with my Pop/Rock/Country cover duo. I also have a long history of playing with other working bands and have performed live on television many times. In addition to performing, I do studio session work and write music for sync licensing, with tracks featured on major TV streaming platforms. I’m most proud of building a steady career that combines performing, recording, teaching, and creating music that reaches people in different ways.
