Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tywan Bell of Charlotte

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tywan Bell. Check out our conversation below.

Tywan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
You know, what really makes me lose track of time is when I’m creating music. I know as an artist it’s expected, but sometimes I find myself investing hours into my passion without even having dinner lol. However though, that’s one way of keeping myself grounded and realizing who I am and understanding that no matter how much I grow and how far I go, just taking time to get reconnected with my foundation is a necessity. It’s kinda similar to taking care of that inner child that you once was as an adult.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
What’s up everybody, my name is Tywan Bell, A.K.A “M.I.T” or “MadeInTaiwon”. I’m a Charlotte Native and I’ve been in the city my whole life. Currently I’m 27 and still trying to figure out how adulthood is supposed to be; even though we’re just bigger kids with more responsibilities. Ultimately I think that’s one way of describing maturity or just growing up.

What I do though is create music that resonates with how we live in our everyday lives. From working a 9 to 5 while building something outside of the normal life cycle to just spending time with family and growing it into something beautiful. I’m also a Record Label owner and my label is called “Nameless Movement Records”. I’ve had my Label since 2019, but it was conceived and spoke about in 2015 while I was still in High School with a group of my close friends. And to digress a little, I don’t like to think of myself as special or highly gifted either, because ultimately I’m just like everyone in this world, the only thing that makes me different is the choices that I make.

For my story though, I like to leave pieces of the life throughout my entire catalog. For example, my 9th Album “D.A.T.A” releases on 12*13*25, but the only way to really understand my upbringing on how I made it to my mindset currently, you would have to take a trip down memory lane to Album # 1; even to my very 1st EP “Genesis” on Soundcloud. And speaking of SoundCloud, that is the proving grounds of my beginning. In 2014, my homeboys and I used to Record freestyles and drop ’em the next day doing one takes. A few of them still create music to this day, we’re just all in a different stage in life.

And lastly, I’m always working on something even when I’m not on Social Media. You know I find peace in keeping my life off the internet as much as possible. I may scroll on Instagram and laugh at Reels here and there, but I normally save them to my personal collections or send them to my close circle lol. But for real though, I’m not so big on holding a persona for the world that I can’t keep up with. So while I’m at home relaxing, working on music, and cherishing my family, just know I always have at least 5 Albums that are in the chamber waiting to be recorded.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that really shaped my world is when my Uncle passed away in 2022; Long Live Uncle Kiba. It’s interesting experiencing a loss of someone close to your heart in a time of your life when you’re not on stable grounds emotionally and mentally that it ultimately wakes you up. My Uncle really gave me a broader perspective on how to be confident and how to spread love even when the world is coming at you with excessive pressure. It also made me realize that life is short. Regardless if you are in the best shape of your life, you can go at anytime. So honestly that’s why I am the way that I am right now; openminded, confident, grounded, and focused.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
If I’m being honest, the pressures of life alone makes me want to give up sometimes, but I understand the reasons for why I continue to push through and give it my all. From working on my 9 to 5, to paying bills, family, and just life in general. With my Lady right now, we’re growing and building a family with each other in ways I never expected, but I’m ready for the next stage of life with her. You know, I’ve changed over the years and I’m proud of the man that I’ve become. So to translate where I stand, there will always be times when I want to give up and just call it quits, but then I always remember what I’m doing it for; that alone keeps me going.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me will always be who I am on Social Media. ‘Cause I hate to be a poser who only put on for the internet, but in real life, I’m a completely different person. Now to be fair, when I was younger, yeah, I was with the flexing and boasting my financial and social status by posting pictures with stacks of money and wearing designer clothes while still living at my Pop’s house. But once I matured and realized that the world is much bigger than putting on that you got it for people who don’t know you from a can of paint, ultimately that shit doesn’t matter at all. And plus, if you really think about it, it’s harder to keep up a fake image than it is to just be yourself.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
You know, this is a great question. ‘Cause a part of me doesn’t believe in being limited, but I do notice when I’m out of my usual depth and in a new space vibrationally; I feel uncomfortable due to unfamiliar circumstances. And just to elaborate more, being uncomfortable is another way to see how much progress you are making and have already made. For example, if you are constantly doing the same thing over and over, not seeing progression or growth, and being complacent due to the comfortability, then that can become a bad place to get stuck in when you lack the proper motivation to progress and seek growth. So to sum it up, I seek being uncomfortable, because I find comfort in being in uncomfortable situations and circumstances.
