Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Vanessa Novissimo Wright of Raleigh

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Vanessa Novissimo Wright. Check out our conversation below.

Vanessa, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My writing, specifically my Menopause In Three Lines pieces. I’ve been writing these for about two years, but I’m now challenging myself to write them for 100 days in a row. These are little haiku-ish pieces that relate to joy, creativity, and energy in my new menopause era. I love them.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Vanessa Novissimo Wright–a writer and certified life coach for midlife creatives. I help them navigate menopause with creativity and joy so they can show up vibrantly for themselves and their community. Using my FLOW self-care method, I help women embrace this age and stage of life with clarity, creativity, and curiosity.

I also run a boutique marketing communications practice supporting small businesses, authors, and mission-led entrepreneurs with visibility strategy and authentic brand storytelling.

I’m a veteran homeschooling mom of three–with my last kid graduating in the spring of 2026. 15 years of home education, phew! Being a mom/home educator is definitely the hardest job I’ve ever had. While I’m excited to move to my next era, I am so thankful for our journey.

I am proudly GenX and nearly all of my playlists center around music from the 70s-90s. I am an avid journaler, collector of tea and paper goods, and I’m generally reading 3-4 books at once.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Ooh, I love this question. I’ve been thinking about it a lot, especially since turning 50 earlier in 2025. I’ve always been a daydreaming, creative at heart. Playing make-believe, creating plays, stories, dance routines (hello, 1980s record player), and escaping to other worlds via books.

However, I’m the eldest daughter and a Capricorn (Virgo Rising), so I also love rules, structure, reliability, and tackling big goals.

The world probably told me that people-pleasing was the way to get what I wanted, and I struggled for decades with this. I’ve spent the last two years unraveling these stories and getting back in touch with my inner daydreamer child. It’s been lovely.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self not to follow all the rules. I would encourage her to take her wildest dreams and speak them out loud, and not keep them in her head or on her journal pages.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Well, chocolate, if I’m being honest. Alone time and quiet. I’ve always needed these two things, even as a child. As extroverted as I am, I love being by myself.

I think they would also share that friends and family are important to me, remembering little details, showing up as much as I can, and making people laugh.

They would also say I need books, paper journals, piles of stickers, and all the pens my heart desires. Oh, and a trip to Scotland. That is on my list!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Lately, I feel most at peace when I am walking at the nearby lake alone. We’re fortunate to have a stunning local lake and decent weather most of the year. I love walking in the winter when it’s quiet, the trees are bare, and the sun floods the forest floor with light. It’s truly magical.
