Scott McGregor of Raleigh on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Scott McGregor. Check out our conversation below.

Scott, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I would definitely hire me! I know that is probably an expected answer, but I feel this way for a few of reasons. The first is that I take what I do very seriously. I put in the time and effort to make sure that I am delivering a quality product and experience. Secondly, I am skilled at what I do. I pride myself on being able to truly capture moments in a unique way, as well as being consistently produce, no matter the circumstances. I study and practice, even now, to foster these skills. My clients trust me, and I want to do all I can to make sure that I am in the position to be able to address anything that may arise. And finally, I know this is a business, but its not only that for me. I actually care about my clients being happy with what I provide. Sometimes, we run across people who only care about the money, and not really about the customer. I feel like customer satisfaction is something that often gets brushed off, but it’s something that I innately factor into everything I do. While I can say this sometimes causes me to be more critical on myself (lol), I do believe it’s a part of the reason why I have so many clients that continue to come back to me year after year.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Scott McGregor, the lead photographer and owner of Vision 6 Productions. Vision 6 Productions is a media company that specializes in capturing life’s best moments through photography and videography. My story is pretty simple! I have always been a “creative” and this has been reflected in various ways during my life. It started with me being heavy into art growing up. I would draw action figures (sometimes instead of doing homework). In high school, I was a part of the art program which allowed me to work in acrylic paints, charcoal, etc. I got into graphic design and started creating print media for student organizations and businesses in college. I bought my first point and shoot digital camera during a black Friday sale. Long story short, photography was a natural progression for me and was something that I always wanted to do. After talking about it for a long time and dragging my feet, I was forced a bit when my wife bought me my first DSLR camera in 2018. I started out taking pictures of friends and family, and then the next thing you know I was getting contracted to take images for some pretty large companies. With my brand, you get authenticity, you get quality, and you get consistency!

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think what breaks bonds between people the most is miscommunication and uncommunicated expectations. I think these bonds can be restored with clear communication and the desire to restore the bond.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say, you will not be perfect and that is OK! You matter and you will always matter, no matter how it may feel at times. You are more than just what others say or think. You are whoever you choose to be. You are important and special just because you are you, and not because of what you do or give. Be sure to live in the “NOW” and enjoy every single moment. Time is the one thing that you will not be able to get back!

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think they would say that wanting to be there for others is something that matters to me. I get a lot of fulfillment from being able to help others and having others that feel like they can depend on me. I think they would also say that me doing what I say I am going to do is important. Whether it be a goal or whether it just be something someone asks of me. If I say I am going to do it, then I am going to do everything possible to hold true to that.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
WORRYING ABOUT THINGS THAT I CAN’T CONTROL. As much as I am trying to stop doing this, I still fall into the trap from time to time. This is something that absolutely will not pay off. I understand and believe that we should be as prepared as possible for what may come next in life. However, we can’t be so worried about the future that we miss out of the greatness of what may be happening right now.
