Inspiring Conversations with Paige Bohart of Bohart Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Bohart.

Hi Paige, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Bohart Counseling was established in 2024; I am a sole proprietor following a dream that seemed impossible once. My story is only beginning.
I came here from California in 2003, so North Carolina is home. I started out teaching and tutoring English around Fayetteville and received my clinical license in 2023 after graduating from Pembroke University. I raised my kids here, both born at Womack, and I was a military spouse for twenty years.
I am in the initial building stages of my business, and my physical location is in the heart of Fayetteville; however, I offer virtual counseling anywhere in North Carolina, with sliding scale rates for those who do not have insurance or who have financial need. I am currently applying to my dream doctoral program at Duke University, so the dream continues.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have an intense determination, and I had my eye on a beautiful historic property in the heart of Hope Mills while I was finishing my degree; it had been vacant since before covid. I worked to find out who owned it and convinced them to rent it out to me; I tried to fix up the property by myself. I paid rent for 3 months trying to fix the place up before I could even consider opening. I did flooring, painting, ripped out carpet (oh my gosh that was hard), replaced ceiling tiles, etcetera. Then summer came, broiling hot North Carolina summer.
I had fixed up the property and had connected with Sobriety Court and Veteran’s Court in Cumberland County, so I was getting referrals; however, the building was a sauna; it was cooler outside than in the building. The owners did not respond to inquiries or to suggestions for solving, and they eventually told me that they would get back to me the following month. I had to leave it all behind and did not know what I was going to do. I moved out all of my furniture and left what I had bought and improved for the building.
Fortunately, so I thought at the time, through offering mental health services to the treatment courts, I had met people who invited me to rent their next-door building and affiliate; they are community known and have a contract with the courts. These people wanted me to pay them rent and then pay them 70% of what I earned; it was bizarre, but I got out of there. Keep in mind that I am moving all this furniture and stuff by my little ol’ self, back and forth in my Jeep.
Thankfully, through offering services to the treatment courts, I also met an amazing colleague and friend who recommended me at Lighthouse Counseling, also called Biblical Counseling. I initially had declined because the term ‘biblical counseling’ felt restrictive or too specific, but my friend assured me that it was an open-minded place with spiritual connection being important, that it wasn’t necessarily super bible-oriented or strictly Christian.
At this point in my journey, I cannot be more grateful; spiritual self is an integral element of wellness and of healing, so this shift has helped me improve my approach.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bohart Counseling?
Bohart Counseling is a board licensed therapist located in Fayetteville North Carolina and offering virtual therapy across North Carolina. I offer counseling for individuals ages 8 and up, specializing in anxiety, depression, and trauma. I utilize a mindfulness and CBT based approach.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising about me is that I play a number of instruments and have been a vocalist since early childhood, beginning piano at age 3 and training vocally since age 7. Also, people may not know that I am an avid writer and have the eternal theater bug, so will likely become involved in creative future projects.
What may surprise someone is that I grew up intricately defined by the creative arts and see creative connection as a life source. I hope to help validate the efficacy of accessing the creatively connected self as a valuable therapeutic tool toward wellness.
