Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Chidester.
Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Our journey to Knightdale started long before we ever thought about opening a dental practice. My wife is from Idaho, and I’m from Massachusetts, and between the two of us we’ve lived just about everywhere—Idaho, Utah, Mississippi, Florida, and Massachusetts. Each place taught us something we loved: the mountains, the coast, the warm weather, and especially the kindness of the people in the South.
When it came time to pick a place to settle down long-term, we realized we didn’t want to choose just one of those things—we wanted the best of all worlds. That’s what led us to North Carolina. It felt like the perfect blend of everything we loved.
We got married in 2017, started our family, and finished dental school in Boston. Even as students, we talked about owning our own practice someday. After moving to North Carolina, I worked for a little while as an associate in Cary. But pretty quickly, we realized there was no reason to put off our dream. We were young, excited, and ready to build something that reflected who we are.
Our search brought us to Knightdale, where we found a second-generation dental office that was outdated but full of possibility. We renovated it into a bright, modern, open space that feels comfortable and welcoming—exactly the kind of place we’d want our own family to walk into.
We hired two incredible dental assistants and officially opened our doors in April.
Now we get to create a practice that feels like “us”—friendly, down-to-earth, focused on families, and rooted in a community we truly love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a practice from scratch is a big undertaking on its own—but doing it while raising little kids, moving across states, getting settled, and welcoming a new baby all in the same year definitely added a few extra challenges. Life has been full and we’ve had to juggle a lot, but we’ve taken it step by step.
We’ve learned to work together, support each other, and keep moving forward, even on the hectic days. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been a good kind of busy, and it’s helped shape who we are as a family and as a practice.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We’re a general dental office. We do specialized procedures such as clear aligners and implants. What sets us apart brand-wise is the combination of great dentistry and connection. We’re proud of the positive, down-to-earth atmosphere our team creates and the relationships we build with the families we serve.
We also give back through our Give Partner Program, where a portion of every new-patient visit supports the East Coast Greenway—a project close to our hearts that encourages outdoor activities and strengthens local communities.
