Today we’d like to introduce you to Evette Smith.
Hi Evette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into behavioral health and community wellness began with a passion for helping people feel seen, supported, and empowered. Over the years, I worked in environments where I witnessed firsthand how gaps in mental health services, safety education, and community resources impacted individuals and families. Those experiences inspired me to build something that could address those needs more intentionally and holistically.
I started by deepening my own training and professional development and working closely with individuals facing mental health challenges, substance use concerns, and barriers to care. As I grew in the field, I saw how powerful it was when people were given not only support, but tools, skills, and knowledge to navigate their lives with confidence.
This led to the creation of I Fit Out, LLC, a behavioral health and whole-health wellness organization where we provide peer support, outpatient therapy, substance use groups, and medication management. My goal was to create a space where individuals could receive compassionate, person-centered care that honors their lived experiences and supports their overall well-being.
As my work expanded, I also stepped into a training and professional development role. Through Resources for Humanity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, I began offering safety and preparedness training—including CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, NCI+ Prevention, Evidence-Based Protective Intervention – Prevention, WRAP, and CTAA PASS Wheelchair Securement. Becoming a trainer allowed me to reach not only individuals in need of services, but also the professionals who serve them, helping raise standards across the community.
Today, I stand exactly where my mission has led me: supporting people through healing, empowering future peer support specialists, as a NCCPSS Training Facilitator, and equipping organizations with skills that foster safety, compassion, and competence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge shaped my purpose and strengthened my commitment to serving North Carolina with heart, integrity, and excellence. Building I Fit Out, LLC and expanding my training programs required navigating limited resources, balancing multiple responsibilities, and earning the trust of communities and organizations across North Carolina.
Managing rapid growth has been challenging. As demand increased, I had to refine systems, develop partnerships, and continually elevate my own skills.
Despite the obstacles, each step taught me resilience, reinforced my passion for community well-being, and clarified my mission: to empower individuals and organizations with knowledge, confidence, and compassion so they can better serve others.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about I Fit Out, LLC?

Brand-wise, I am most proud of how we honor the lived experiences of those we serve and create pathways for healing that are authentic and accessible.
In addition to leading I Fit Out, LLC, I also serve as a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Training Facilitator, helping individuals with lived experience become certified peer support specialists. This work is deeply meaningful to me because it empowers people to turn their personal journeys into professional strengths that uplift their communities.
I also provide specialized safety, preparedness, and professional development training through Resources for Humanity, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Through this platform, we offer CPR, First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, NCI+ Prevention, Evidence-Based Protective Intervention – Prevention, WRAP, and CTAA PASS Wheelchair Securement. These trainings support mental health professionals, non-emergency medical transportation providers, caregivers, and community partners by equipping them with essential skills to respond confidently in real-world situations.
What I want readers to know is that both organizations share a unified mission: to strengthen communities by offering education, support, and services that promote safety, healing, and holistic well-being. Whether we are providing behavioral health services, peer support training, or professional certification programs, our goal is always the same—to uplift people and help them thrive.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Raleigh is the sense of community and the pace of growth. Raleigh is a city filled with opportunity, whether in healthcare, education, entrepreneurship, or community service and there’s a genuine spirit of collaboration here. People support one another, and there’s a strong culture of innovation that makes it an exciting place to work and serve. I also love how diverse the city has become; it brings a richness to the community that you can feel in its neighborhoods, events, and local businesses.
What I like least about Raleigh is that growth can sometimes come with challenges. As the city expands, issues like traffic, rising costs of living, and limited access to certain services for underserved communities become more noticeable. There’s still work to be done to ensure that all residents benefit from the city’s success. However, I’m hopeful because Raleigh is full of passionate, dedicated people who care deeply about equity and community well-being—people who are committed to being part of the solution.
