We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tacara Cannady. Check out our conversation below.
Tacara, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
For many years I felt that the “9-5 lifestyle” would be suitable for me. What I didn’t know at the time was that God had other plans and purposes for me. I never thought that I’d be an entrepreneur because I was afraid of the risk of not having a consistent income. What I know now is that God always has plans for us that we can’t see but he’s always leading us to our purpose as long as we are putting forth effort. I am in year two of owning my construction company Top Tier Construction of Raleigh LLC, and
I wouldn’t trade my decision of becoming an entrepreneur for the world. I’m finally doing what I love, and most importantly I’m able to contribute to my community.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am licensed NC Builder Tacara Cannady, and owner of Top Tier Construction of Raleigh LLC. I am also a NC Realtor. I am so proud to be one of few Minority women builder’s. Top Tier construction of Raleigh specializes in residential and commercial building. Our main goal is always to achieve and exceed our clients goals and expectations. Lately we’ve been working on a tremendous amount of residential custom new construction homes, renovations, and commercial projects. We plan to continue to expand and help as many clients as possible throughout the triangle and surrounding. Also we take pride in giving back to our community. We realize the need for housing in the triangle area and hope to be able to execute an affordable housing community in the near future.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother and father both taught me about work. They are both so resilient. They taught me when you set goals and work resiliently towards them you will succeed.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There were several moments that I thought about just giving up on becoming a general contractor. There were and still are so many adversities in this industry that makes it difficult to become successful. My will and my calling would not allow me to just give up. My commitment to giving back to my community is what truly keeps me motivated.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I believe my closest friends would say what truly matters to me is placing myself in a position to be able to be a resource to my family and community. I’ve always valued family and community, because that’s what shapes who we are. It’s about helping one another so that we all can become the best that we are capable of being,
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
I am tap dancing to work because I know that I’m building a legacy for my family . Being an entrepreneur is absolutely one of the most difficult things that I’ve ever done, but the reward is so gracious. I know that I’ve put my all into everything that I’ve done and continue to do. I’m working each day to become greater, and I love what I do so there is no better feeling. I can truly say I’ve never been this excited at any point of my careers until I became a general contractor.
