Story & Lesson Highlights with Geraldine Douglas of Charlotte and Gastonia

We recently had the chance to connect with Geraldine Douglas and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Geraldine, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up, pray, do 5-6 minutes of meditation, stretch and then get ready to head to the office at my full time job or head to downstairs to my office.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Geraldine Douglas and I am the owner of Damsel Ready and Line Dancing with Geraldine. I started Damsel Ready in October 2020 selling personal protection items and educational products designed to keep the entire family safe. While I do a couple of vendor events yearly to get my products in front of people, I like collaborating with business owners to get a broader reach. Last year, I organized a Self Defense workshop and invited Boggs Middleton from Conway, South Carolina, to provide Self Defense Training to attendees. I believe techniques , education and products work hand in hand. Looking forward to doing another workshop with him soon. Stay tuned. I started Line Dancing with Geraldine as a business in March of this year. I have been a line dance instructor for 9 years however, the demand to not only teach classes regularly along with getting booked for special events called for me to turn what used to be a hobby of mine into a business. My focus is to continue advertising the classes that I teach in Charlotte North Carolina and Gastonia North Carolina while also, traveling to Cincinnati Ohio one to two times a quarter to organize line dancing classes and events.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that I have with an aunt. I have a total of five aunts that I love dearly but there was one who always spent the most time with me growing up. She always checked on me, spent time with me, would do nice things for me, gave me advice to help me work through problems and to be honest we still have a special bond. Having a relationship with her helped me to see myself as someone who is lovable, worthy of being treated nicely, being friendly while having having boundaries, being a problem solver and last by not least, a good aunt to my amazing niece, Natalia.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t waste your time on what others think of you, it is only important to know how you feel about you.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes and No. The public side of me is business minded, organized, professional, a goal getter, outspoken and guarded. The private side of me is reserved for family and close friends.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Love, Kindness, A Good Sense of Humor and a woman who Loves God along with her family and friends. Oh, and I cannot forget line dancing!
