Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Fisher.
Hi Kelly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Indigo and Rice was started by my father-in-law, whose marketing background was in broadcast media sales. He’s charismatic, personable, and is passionate about helping small businesses make a marketing splash in order to compete with larger businesses. A “too-good-to-be-true” opportunity in media sales came to him, and he asked me to help him keep up with his client load while he was figuring out a transition plan. Shortly after, I decided to take over the company! I’ve continued to focus on uplifting small, oftentimes family-owned businesses mainly with their social media presences. I’ve been owner of Indigo and Rice since 2022.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Gosh, no. I didn’t major in business and am not a salesperson. I’m more of a creative. I love the work I do, but as a business owner, you have to wear every single hat, which, unfortunately for me, includes sales (and accounting). While doing my day-to-day work, I was still having to carve out time to learn how to run a business, while also figuring out how to get new clients. I’m 3+ years in and parts of it still make me uncomfortable, but looking back I’m able to take a lot of pride in how far I’ve come.
We’ve been impressed with Indigo and Rice, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Indigo and Rice is a Durham-based marketing agency that serves small businesses all over the state. We specialize in the small, family-owned businesses because of how valuable they are to our local communities. We know many small businesses don’t always have the budget for marketing, so we work with every client, where they are, on strategies that will make a difference for them at a price they can afford. I visit my clients often and in person to get to know their businesses and to get real-time content to share to social media and/or their websites so that it looks like they’re the ones behind their online presence.
Especially in this day and age, every business needs a social media presence. It’s just how people are making buying decisions. We don’t want a small business to forego reaching new clients because they don’t have a large marketing budget. Indigo and Rice is that affordable option!
