Green Scientist LLC was founded to address a serious and widespread problem: many scientists in the U.S. and elsewhere work long, demanding hours, yet remain undervalued and under‑recognized for their contributions. The academic system often underpays PhD students and postdocs, expects them to work nights and weekends, and all too frequently reserves the credit — publications, inventions, funding, awards, tenure‑track positions — for the Principal Investigator (PI), while the real hands‑on work remains largely invisible to the public.
The consequences are not trivial. Multiple surveys have documented a growing mental health crisis among early‑career researchers:
A recent survey from the PostdocNet (affiliated with the Max Planck Society) found that approximately 55% of postdocs report at least mild depressive symptoms, and 24% show signs of moderate to severe depression — a rate nearly three times higher than in the general population.
A systematic review and meta-analysis in 2022 found that among doctoral researchers, 24% display clinically significant depressive symptoms and 17% show significant anxiety symptoms — rates comparable to other high-stress populations such as medical trainees.
Across academia globally, many report “work-related mental health concerns.” In one large survey, roughly half of respondents said they had sought or wanted mental health support, and over 50% had considered leaving academia due to depression, anxiety, or stress.
Beyond mental health, there is structural inequity in recognition and reward. The pressure to “publish or perish,” long hours, limited job security, and an overemphasis on publication numbers over actual scientific contribution have fostered a system where many contributors remain invisible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No growing business has a smooth road, and Green Scientist is no exception. Our initial challenge was earning the trust of researchers who had often been undervalued or disillusioned by the academic system. Many were understandably skeptical that a private company could be genuinely invested in their well-being.
To overcome this, we focused on giving first-offering free services, awards, seminars, and webinars to demonstrate our commitment. Gradually, we gained traction, and today we proudly support scientists from top universities, companies, and government labs in the U.S., including MIT, Harvard, NIH, CDC, Georgia Tech, Thermo Fisher, and Biogen, to name a few.
We are honored to have served thousands of scientists through our initiatives, including newsletters like Humans of Science and Extraordinary Scientist, as well as other programs that recognize and celebrate their contributions.
The impact is also reflected in our business growth: our revenue grew more than 10x between 2022 and 2025, a testament to the trust we have earned and the lives we have positively impacted. Recently, we were recognized as the best in our category by two independent organizations that evaluate companies based on customer feedback.
