Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Hall.
Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2014, I experienced significant health challenges, including extreme fatigue and cognitive impairment. After spending a substantial amount of time and money on conventional specialized testing and supplements without seeing results, I shifted my focus. I began working with complementary medical practitioners and quickly found that their approach was more aligned with my needs. This experience reinforced my commitment to this field.
Prior to my illness, I had already begun transitioning from my engineering background toward complementary medicine. I had become a massage therapist to support myself while completing pre-med prerequisites for a four-year naturopathic program. Though I temporarily returned to the corporate world, my personal health journey made it clear that I needed to resume my original path.
Having personally experienced the benefits of complementary modalities, I fully dedicated myself to my education. Over the years, I have added various complementary modalities to my practice to meet people’s diverse needs. My most current addition is classical homeopathy; I am in the final year of the program and look forward to integrating it into my practice soon.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say that entrepreneurship is rarely a smooth road; however, for me, the challenges have been well worth the agency I have gained over my professional life.
The biggest challenge I faced was the pandemic. I often work with a vulnerable population who struggle to make it through the day even on the best of days. A novel virus was terrifying for them as was being in close proximity to another person for extended periods of time.
Individuals who are struggling with severe fatigue, immune impairment, and nervous system dysregulation have been very challenged in the last 5 years. The world has been quite chaotic and a challenge to their already fragile systems.
Therefore, creating an environment where people feel safe enough to ask for what they need has been absolutely key to my work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
The modalities I offer are best described as somatic bodywork. I use a blend of craniosacral therapy and a sound healing modality, Acutonics. Acutonics utilizes tuning forks on the meridian system (and other energy systems) to balance energy. Both modalities are used to balance the nervous system and reestablish flow and communication within the body. They can also aid in the release of trauma and the physiology that holds it. Many people who struggle with chronic illness had one (or many) traumatic experiences in their life that started a cascade leading to their current health status.
I have a pretty interesting astrological chart, meaning that I combine energies not commonly seen in one package. I have a very grounded, centered (Taurus) affect which really creates a safe space. Then, I combine both high vibration Aquarian energy with Mercury in Capricorn intellect. So, I often serve as a bridge for individuals who are just beginning their journeys with this type of work. I am able to span both sides. I am able to communicate with people in a way that is accessible (left brain) while facilitating the sensing (right brain) work that we accomplish together.
I believe that our departure from Nature has made us very ill and that, ultimately, we must learn to respect (if not revere) and return to Nature to find health again. It’s not a unique point of view, by any means, but is absolutely one of my core beliefs.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
My career started in engineering, where I worked on simulators for a defense contractor. I later transitioned and held a corporate position as a Director of Data Science.
While I still maintain a deep interest in math and science—and all the mysteries of the Universe—I feel that the areas I am focusing on now have a more direct and positive impact on the community, which is personally rewarding as well.
