Rising Stars: Meet Eddie Jones of Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Jones.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started with a pen, a Bible, and a burden. I wrote stories and devotions and gave away royalties from the sale of those books. After a church event where we had forty box lunches left over, I drove to downtown Raleigh and handed those lunches to those in the park who appeared in need. In time I met men and women on the street who hungered for food but also for hope. I said yes when they asked for prayer. I said yes when they needed food. I said yes when they needed a motel room for the night or a new pair of shoes.

Soon others joined me. We raise funds to buy groceries, get a motel room, or provide a fresh outfit for work. Team Jesus meets those who sit on curbs, park benches, and wait at the bus station. We listen. We pray. We trust Jesus to change hearts and provide for daily needs. Again and again He comes through.

We help men and women who want a fresh start, who struggle to take that first step. We pass out Jesus’ Messages. We make Jesus known in the small places and in small ways that show His character and love .

That is how I began. That is what we do each Sunday.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our biggest challenge is logistics: helping someone get a motel, raising funds for food, new clothing, and room rent, and discerning who truly wants help. Some stay stuck because of a poverty mindset that whispers, “This is all you’ll ever know.” That thinking keeps them locked in the same place with no permanent shelter, job, income, or path out.

Over and over we give them Jesus’ message that He came to give life and life to the full and that it is on us to believe, expect, and receive.

Another challenge is awareness. Many with means do not see the need or know how simple it is to help. A small lunch and knowing someone’s name can lead to a conversation and birth the belief that sleeping outside is not the only option. I am a writer who believes God is good and Jesus loves all more than I can, so it is easy for me to keep preaching the same truth: God wants more for you than you do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a writer and author with a degree in English and an emphasis in journalism. Telling the stories of others is what I have been doing since college. The ministry work I do now is the same as covering an event or crafting a feature story. It starts with making a connection, listening, learning where the wounds are, and bringing awareness to the problem. I write pirate novels for young adults and mysteries for middle-grade readers. I write romantic comedies for adults who enjoy a good laugh at how silly and clueless we can be at times. I make Jesus Message videos and, as a writers’ coach, help others get their books in print. I ship books to inmates because I know most of those in prison are desperate for a connection, and a book is a simple and inexpensive way to let someone behind bars know they are not forgotten.
