Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Joyce.
Hi Rachel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my career in beauty over 30 years ago. It began as a passion for the feelings that being surrounded by beautiful things made you feel. The textures, the aromas, the overall comfort that came from treating yourself to a small piece of luxury provided fueled my desire to not only work in, but grow as much as I could in the field.
I began in sales with the Estee Lauder Companies, behind the beauty counter. I was the youngest one and had the most to prove. I relied on natural instincts and my heart to take care of others both in making them feel seen, heard and individually special and beautiful. I quickly rose to various leadership roles within the prestige beauty/retail environment that took me all along the southern and northern east coast from Florida to New York and points in-between.
My most notable role was as the Director of Education for CHANEL, where I began as an Education Executive but was invited to develop the curriculum for the biggest skincare launch to date for the country. Loving research and strategy, mixed with emotion and telling a story that resonated with others was a key to that success. I trained in France, strategized with leaders from other countries and ultimately helped to translate the CHANEL message from French culture to American.
After the birth of my three daughters, I left my high-profile post in New York to be at home to raise my beautiful girls. It was a hard decision as I had built my career solely by my work ethic and natural talents coupled with the gifts of others’ belief in my abilities. I gave up something most can only dream of having. For me, being a mother was more important. I have never regretted it, even though I had never found that level of satisfaction from another professional role…until now.
I began my journey into Entrepreneurship by God’s grace. It was never part of my plan. It began for me as a way to contribute to my family and regain a professional purpose that had been missing since I left New York. Always loving skincare, I felt a push to go back to school and learn the art of esthetics. After graduating from the AVEDA Institute in Charlotte, NC in early 2022, I opened the doors of RJ SKIN in June of 2022 without knowing ONE PERSON, not ONE CLIENT. I just knew that if I was able to create a space where I could recreate the feelings I had towards beauty early in my life, a place where others could escape and learn to care for themselves while being cared for, I could make a difference. Nearly four years later, and over 600 people cared for, I think we’ve built something special.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ironically – it’s been a smooth road. I believe it’s because I’m doing what I was called to do.
There are always learnings that no one teaches you about being an Entrepreneur, such as how to run a business, licensing, inspections, etc. But luckily, I have had guidance for that and surround myself with top talent in all regards.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create bespoke treatments and rituals that take into account each individuals needs, goals and abilities.
I specialize in luxury skincare and makeup (facials and treatments) and personalized treatment plans.
What sets me apart is the experience that each individual has access to while they spend time with me. From the intake, to the little touches that make the moment more memorable, there is always a way to elevate the everyday without it costing anything extra.
I am most proud of my results that take the best of science and technology and couple it with the best in sensory experience. You can have it all.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
To listen to the voice inside them that tells them when they feel most as peace. What brings you the most joy is most likely your calling. To think how you can use your talents for the good of others to ultimately share love in the key to changing lives.
