Rising Stars: Meet Ansel Currin of Oxford NC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ansel Currin.

Hi Ansel , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My family has farmed tobacco and beef cows for three generations. I worked as a professional fireman for 8 years before I quit to pursue building a small buisness which was septic system installation and excavation with my brother. That small buisness has grown over the last five years. We then expanded our buisness into real estate housing rentals, Heavy equipment land clearing, and our newest endeavor of owning and running a restaurant. Rising smoke barbecue. My wife has worked food service for many years. She currently owns her on restaurant named George’s of Oxford in Oxford Nc. We still farm organic tobacco beef cows and organic soybeans and wheat with the help of h2a labor and my dad mainly running that buisness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is rarely smooth. So many days you walk out the door with a plan and one phone call changes the entire day in two minutes. Learning to adapt to the challenges you are presented and having some form of a plan to mitigate the issues seems to be the best solution for me. Build a contact list of reliable sources and people with skill sets where you lack competency. I still get frustrated when things don’t go as planned. Time Managment and organization is key in all aspects of each buisness we run.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
With our septic installation and repair buisness I wanted to be the best in the game. We would work on systems that other people could not or did not have the drive to figure out why they were malfunctioning. I believe what sets us apart from most is presentation, reliability and professionalism. I am proud of the buisness we have built. I have put so much time into growing our businesses however, I am most proud of the people that have allowed me to be able to make the company’s thrive. My family and extended family is the most important thing other than Jesus Christ in my life. I hope that what we are doing now will set our kids up for a head start in life.
I am also proud of all the people that have worked with us throughout the years. Good people make all the difference.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best part of Oxford that I like is the rural community and landscape when farming is in full swing.

The worst part of Oxford in my opinion is the amount of people moving here. However we have found a balance since finding ways to capitalize on the influx of people moving here through the buisnesses we have started. Ex. Offering catering for events, bartending services,
