Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Launey.
Hi Donna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Our story begins when a group of artists decided to create an art space where the community and artists could connect. After finding the perfect space in historic downtown, we went to work creating 6 individual working artist studios and a large gallery space to showcase the wonderful local art this community has to offer. By offering workshops and rotating themed shows, we are able to give the local artists a way to learn and show their art The community at large can engage with the artists in their individual studios which allows for a more intimate experience with the artists and their work. Another important part of our mission is to give back to the community through various fundraising activities. We have proudly supported local food banks, Going Beyond the Pink, Cape Fear River Watch and Save the Children, to mention a few. Our motto is creativity, joy and light which we share with others the moment they visit Gallery Citrine.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After opening in August 2019 and had to close during the Covid pandemic which of course brought challenges to a new business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Gallery Citrine is a cooperative art gallery with working artist studios. We have 12 resident studio artists who work in various painting mediums as well as 3D artists who work in pottery, wire and paper mache.
We are most proud of the quality and variety of art and the welcoming environment we create for the customer.
What matters most to you?
Connection is what drives our endeavors. As an artist, connecting to an art tribe is one of the best ways to keep your art alive and fresh. Connecting to the community helps us to make a difference. Connecting to our customers can brighten their day by sharing the creativity joy and light that our space offerd
