Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Brown.
Hi Kayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Kayla Brown, a licensed speech-language pathologist and the founder of My Roar Therapy. My path started like many others in this field, focused on providing care and helping people communicate. But early in my career, I realized that traditional models often missed what mattered most—people.
I kept noticing how families were left without support once the session ended. How therapists were burned out. How care started to feel mechanical instead of meaningful. I couldn’t ignore it. I wanted to build something that put people first, where compassion wasn’t an afterthought but the foundation.
My Roar Therapy started as a bold step toward that vision. I didn’t have a business plan in a binder. I had clarity, conviction, and community. I knew I wanted to create a space where families feel seen, where therapists feel supported, and where care actually feels like care. That meant doing things differently.
Today, we guide families, not just clients. We lead with empathy, grow with purpose, and show up with joy. I built this practice to be rooted in values, not just services. And even as we’ve grown, that part hasn’t changed. This is more than my career. It’s my calling.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business in your twenties comes with a steep learning curve. I was building something while also becoming the kind of leader it required. In the beginning, I wore every hat, therapist, admin, billing, HR, marketing, operations. All of it. There were nights I couldn’t sleep because I was up at 1 AM, thinking through better ways to show up for the families we serve.
Being a young entrepreneur also meant navigating a lot of doubt, both internal and external. I had to learn how to trust my vision while also building the systems to support it. That tension between heart and structure was tough. I was committed to doing things differently, but that meant constantly learning, adjusting, and letting go of perfection.
One of the hardest lessons was understanding that I couldn’t do it all alone. I had to learn to protect my capacity and ask for help. Building a people-first practice starts with leading yourself with the same care you give others.
It’s been messy and stretching and deeply worth it. The challenges shaped me, but they didn’t break me. They clarified why I do this and how I want to keep showing up with consistency, compassion, and courage.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about My Roar Therapy?
My Roar Therapy is a multidisciplinary pediatric practice rooted in people-first care. We specialize in speech-language pathology and are expanding into occupational therapy and more. We believe families deserve access to whole-child support in one place. Stay tuned. We’re growing with purpose.
What we’re really known for is how we show up. We don’t just provide services. We walk alongside families. Every part of our care is built on compassion, collaboration, and connection. From day one, we’ve believed therapy should never feel cold or transactional. It should feel human.
We have immediate openings. And we want families to hear this clearly. Your concerns are valid. Your child’s development matters right now. We do not believe in telling parents to wait and wait while their child struggles. Early support matters. Every child deserves the chance to thrive without unnecessary delays.
What sets us apart is how we care, how we lead, and how we build relationships. My Roar Therapy is grounded in values like Empowered Voices, Genuine Connections, and Fearless Authenticity You can feel that in how we communicate with parents, how we advocate for our clients, and how we celebrate progress. Big or small, it all matters here.
We are not here to simply check a box. We are here to change what care feels like. If you’ve ever felt dismissed or unheard, we’re here to make sure that ends now.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is the day we got our first family dog, Grizzly. I was in first grade, and it was Christmas. We were at my grandma’s house, waiting like we did every year, when my parents walked in carrying this tiny golden retriever puppy with a bow around his neck. It didn’t feel real at first. My brother and I were so excited, we could barely sit still. We named him Grizzly, and he was with our family for over 15 years.
That day is still one of my clearest memories. Not just because we got a dog, but because it was one of those rare, perfect moments where joy, surprise, and family all came together. That feeling stayed with me. It reminds me how powerful small, intentional moments can be. They shape us more than we realize.
