Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Lafonda Blackmon of Liberty

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lafonda Blackmon. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Lafonda, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now is all about staying focused, organized, and moving with purpose. I start by checking messages, updates, and anything that needs my immediate attention. From there, my day usually flows between planning, handling responsibilities, creating, and staying connected with the opportunities in front of me. I’m constantly balancing what needs to get done with what I’m building for the future, so every day has a mix of productivity and growth. Even with the busy moments, I try to keep my mindset grounded and intentional so I stay on track with everything I’m working toward.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m the founder and creative force behind Successful Toy Production, a growing hub for music, fashion, and storytelling that brings bold ideas to life. My journey started with a vision to build a brand that reflects authenticity, hustle, and purpose—and today I’m proud to operate across multiple lanes including merchandise, creative projects, casting opportunities, and lifestyle content. What makes my work unique is the way I blend real experiences with artistic expression, creating products and projects that feel personal, powerful, and culturally connected. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my fashion lines, developing new media projects, and building platforms that open doors for others. My brand is more than a business—it’s a movement fueled by creativity, ambition, and community.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the noise, the expectations, and the labels, there was a version of me that was pure, fearless, and honest. A version that dreamed without limits and moved without permission. Life has a way of shaping us into what others think we should become, but deep down, that original you—the one full of curiosity, creativity, and confidence—still exists. Sometimes you just have to quiet the world long enough to hear your own voice again and return to the person you were always meant to be.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
“There comes a moment when hiding your pain becomes heavier than carrying it with pride. I reached a point where the hurt wasn’t something to bury anymore — it was something to build with. The day I stopped running from my struggles and started owning them was the day everything shifted. My pain became my fuel, my lessons became my leverage, and what once broke me now pushes me forward with power. I didn’t just survive it — I turned it into strength.”

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
For me, the public version of myself is the real me—no filter, no switch-up. What people see is exactly what they get. I don’t put on a different personality to impress anyone or fit into a certain space. I move the same way in private as I do in public, and that’s what keeps me grounded. Being myself at all times means I don’t have to pretend or perform—I just show up as me, every time, and let people accept it or not.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
“I think the thing people will most misunderstand about my legacy is the full intention behind my choices and actions. Often, the focus is on the outcomes—the wins, the losses, or the public moments—without understanding the thought, sacrifice, and purpose behind them. People might see the surface and draw conclusions, but they won’t always see the lessons learned, the risks taken, or the growth that shaped who I am. I hope that, in time, my legacy is recognized not just for what I achieved, but for the journey, resilience, and impact that isn’t immediately visible.”
