Today we’d like to introduce you to Angi Terpenning.
Hi Angi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story isn’t a straight line, it’s more like a winding path that led me exactly where I was supposed to be. I actually learned how to do taxes when I was sixteen. My mom taught me. It clicked for me right away, and before long, I was helping friends and family every year. What started as a skill I enjoyed turned into something much bigger.
During COVID, that “side hustle” grew fast. People were confused and stressed, and I realized how much peace of mind I could bring by helping them understand their finances. That’s where Wildflowers Tax & Accounting Services was born. I wanted to bring clarity and calm to something that most people find overwhelming. My goal was simple: make taxes and bookkeeping feel manageable, transparent, and even empowering.
After years of working in government compliance and fraud prevention, I knew I wanted to build something of my own; something grounded in clarity, transparency, and care. And as Wildflowers grew, I found that many of my clients needed help beyond taxes. They needed systems, organization, and relief from overwhelm. That’s how Honey Bee VA was born. Honey Bee is a virtual assistant agency built to help business owners reclaim their time and get back to what actually matters.
Now, between the two businesses, I get to do what I love every day: help individuals and small business owners simplify their chaos and thrive with confidence by transforming it into systems that flow and numbers that make sense to them. I’m still growing, still learning, and still finding new ways to help people feel in control of their lives and their work and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Growth rarely feels smooth when you’re in the middle of it. Building two businesses while working full-time has tested every ounce of patience, discipline, and faith I have. There have been nights I’ve sat at my desk long after I should have been asleep, trying to keep up, trying to get it right. I’ve had moments of doubt, burnout, and those “what am I even doing?” days that every entrepreneur knows too well.
The hardest part hasn’t been the work itself, it’s been learning how to balance it all without losing myself in the process. I’ve had to learn when to say no, when to rest, and when to let good enough be good enough.
Losing my mom in April 2024 was another defining moment. She’s the one who first taught me how to prepare taxes and she believed in me long before I believed in myself. Her loss reminded me that I do this work to help people feel supported, steady, and cared for, even when life feels uncertain. Every client I help is, in some small way, a continuation of her legacy.
Those lessons, and those losses, are what shaped how I run my businesses today. Wildflowers was built on the idea of bringing clarity and calm to complicated situations. And that came directly from walking through my own seasons of overwhelm. Honey Bee VA grew out of the same truth, that no one should have to do it all alone.
It hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been worth it. Every challenge pushed me to refine my systems, tighten my boundaries, and get clearer about what success really looks like. Not perfect, just peaceful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Wildflowers focuses on tax preparation, bookkeeping, and compliance for individuals and small businesses. It’s about bringing clarity and confidence to people who usually feel stressed or overwhelmed by finances. My clients know that when they work with me, they’re not getting jargon or judgment. They’re getting calm, straightforward guidance from someone who genuinely cares about helping them succeed. Honey Bee VA grew naturally from that same mission. I saw so many small business owners who didn’t just need financial help, they needed operational support. Systems, organization, and time back in their day. So I built a virtual assistant agency that helps businesses simplify their workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and scale sustainably.
What sets me apart is that I don’t treat my work like “numbers” or “tasks.” I see the person behind the business; the one juggling late nights, family obligations, and a dream they refuse to give up on. My approach is holistic: I don’t just fix problems, I build systems that prevent them.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that both Wildflowers and Honey Bee reflect who I am – steady, approachable, and a little bit savage when it comes to protecting my clients’ peace. I built my businesses around the simple belief that clarity changes everything.
When people work with me, they walk away with more than clean books or streamlined systems. They leave with the confidence that everything’s handled, and they can finally breathe again.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is peace – the kind that comes from knowing things are in order, that I’ve done good work, and that the people who trust me can rest a little easier because of it. I love helping people feel calm and capable again. When a client goes from stressed and overwhelmed to saying, “I finally understand this,” that moment right there is everything. It’s not about numbers or systems it’s about giving people back their confidence.
Outside of work, my bliss comes from music – especially live music. That’s my church. There’s something about being surrounded by sound and energy that reminds me to just exist, to be present. It fills me back up when life gets heavy.
And dogs, my dogs especially are pure therapy. There’s nothing pretend about the way they love you. They don’t care what you do for a living or how successful you are. They just love you because you’re theirs. It’s simple and honest. A great reminder that the best things in life don’t ask you to be anything other than yourself.
I’ve learned that happiness doesn’t always come from big wins; it comes from peace, balance, and living life on your own terms.
That’s what I try to create for my clients and for myself every single day.
