Hidden Gems: Meet Emily Anderson of Nurtured by Emily

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Anderson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The idea of helping moms navigate the early postpartum period began in 2016, when my daughter was two years old. At the time, many of my friends were having their second babies, and I felt a growing pull to support them during this especially vulnerable time. With a bit of distance from my own postpartum experience, I realized just how much all mothers need nonjudgmental support, someone in their lives who can truly hold space for them so they can bond with their baby.

Even as I continued working as a National Accounts Director for Fortune 500 clients, I kept returning to the idea that I could meaningfully support women as they began life with a newborn. Becoming a postpartum doula felt like a calling. When the pandemic created space to reevaluate my career, I decided to pursue my passion for maternal wellness and family support. I became certified through DONA and officially started my postpartum doula business in 2021.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a new business takes a great deal of commitment. It requires showing up consistently and moving things forward, even during stretches when progress feels slow or invisible. For me, that meant intentionally reaching out to experts across the maternal wellness field, seasoned postpartum doulas, maternal mental health professionals, lactation consultants, pelvic floor therapists, and more.

Connecting with other women working in this space not only deepened my knowledge and strengthened my referral network but also provided a vital source of encouragement during quieter periods. I was fortunate to have two postpartum doula mentors who had previously built successful doula agencies and were instrumental in offering guidance and perspective. Over time, those relationships became reciprocal- what began as receiving referrals grew into the ability to confidently send referrals back.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Postpartum doulas are trained in maternal wellness to listen deeply, anticipate needs, and offer nonjudgmental support and a calm presence during one of the most vulnerable transitions of life.

At Nurtured by Emily, I provide hands-on, highly personalized support to families in the early weeks and months after birth. My work is intentionally mom-centered, honoring each family’s values and parenting style while helping parents feel genuinely comfortable, supported, and at ease in their own home.

Physical Support
I help with the daily load so mothers can focus on rest and recovery. My services include feeding support for breast, bottle, and pumping; helping establish gentle routines that support sleep and daily flow; modeling safe, evidence-based newborn care; and preparing nourishing meals and snacks for the whole family. I approach my work in a way that creates space for parents to trust their instincts and lead with confidence. Rather than taking over, I support families in recognizing their own strengths, and I’m there to guide, reassure, and answer questions as they arise. This ability to help parents feel capable and grounded is what truly sets my work apart.

Emotional Support
I once read that “the best way to hold a newborn is to hold space for the mom,” and that philosophy guides everything I do. Becoming a mother, whether for the first time or the fifth time, can feel deeply destabilizing. Intrusive thoughts, self-doubt, and emotional swings are common, and I strive to be a calm, steady presence and a soft place to land. Families often share that they feel safe being honest with me, without fear of judgment. When additional care is needed, I connect families with trusted, well-vetted providers to ensure comprehensive support.

Community & Resources
I’m proud of the depth of my community connections and link families to a wide range of verified perinatal professionals when needed. I’ve built a referral network grounded in trust, collaboration, and shared values.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
