Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Hefney.
Hi Alexis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
.
Ava’s Cuisine began as a food truck and has grown into a full-service catering company serving Greensboro and the surrounding areas. We gained significant recognition through our participation in large events such as Dreamville, as well as partnerships with major corporate clients.
Building on this success, we expanded our services by opening our first To-Go restaurant in Greensboro in October 2023. Additionally, opening dine-in location in Gibsonville in 2025.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth happening is easy, and this has certainly been true for us. It has taken a great deal of hard work to maintain a healthy work-life balance while managing growth on such a large scale.
Trusting others to follow our recipes and to fully buy into our commitment to outstanding customer service has been a significant challenge, but also a rewarding one. I believe that these efforts are crucial for sustaining our success and continuing to meet the high standards our customers expect.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
For most of my career, I had envisioned becoming a dentist. I graduated from UNCG with a major in biology and a minor in communications and was on track to pursue dentistry until my first internship, where I realized it was not the right path for me. Following that, I began teaching Earth Science at Dudley High School. During that time, I continued my education, earning a master’s degree in secondary education and certification to become a principal.
It was around that period that I decided to start Ava’s Cuisine & Catering—a venture I never dreamed I would embark upon. Since then, my business has grown, and the journey has been truly rewarding.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Don’t be scared to go out on a limb! It’s not what you know sometimes, it’s who you know! Always remain open and positive
