We recently had the chance to connect with Rahiem Thompson and have shared our conversation below.
Rahiem, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now consists of learning new software and programming strategies. I test new AI tools and try to incorporate them into being a better developer and creative entrepreneur. After my 9-5 I’ll spend time editing videos and coming up with cool ideas to share my art with the world.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rahiem Thompson, and I’m a filmmaker and visual storyteller based in North Carolina and the founder of Roletape, a production company built on the idea of Real Opportunities That Lead to Elevating the Talents of Artistic People Every Day. Roletape specializes in cinematic storytelling that captures real moments with intention, from weddings and personal milestones to entrepreneurs, wellness organizations, and large-scale cultural and corporate events. What makes our work unique is our focus on authenticity, emotion, and community we don’t just document moments, we tell stories that help people see their value, their growth, and their impact. Drawing from years of experience filming community-driven and culture-rich spaces, I approach every project with the same care and creative vision, ensuring each piece feels meaningful, elevated, and true to the people behind it. At its core, Roletape is about creating visual stories that last and reminding people that their moments matter.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Ive always been a into tech, mobile computing, robotics and cameras. I’ve always felt there there was potential for me to create something that the world has never seen before. Im also a very empathetic person and always thought that the world would be a better place if we cared more for other. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that this world requires you to be a little selfish but when you have everything you need you should still look back and lift up others,
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to keep your head up and see every new endeavor out until the end. Life is full of cycles and the better you become and closing those cycles the further you will be able to go. A lot of people spend their lives juggling a bunch of different things but the best thing you can do is learn how to see things through until the end. Don’t ever give up and become selective with what you give your attention too.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Im committed to building an application for photography and videography business owners to build and operate their own business. Ive spent a lot of time in the field as a solo entrepreneur and I have some really good insight on what could make it easier for entrepreneurs like me to run and operate profitably. This is something I’ve been planning and conceptualizing for years. I’ver built websites around the idea and although it hasn’t fully come to fruition yet Im still going to see this project through until the end. I can see a future were millions of photographers around the world use the platform to operate and find new clients to work with while being able to send invoices and contracts on the fly.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would probably quit my day job and downsize my life so that I have little no bills and travel the world with my camera gear telling stories and highlighting the lives of the amazing people that go unnoticed in the community. I would dedicate more time of the day to building that application I want to launch and go to pilot school to learn how to fly planes. I see myself selling my house and buying a plane so that I can go anywhere in the world whenever I want. I think as you get older its easy to get trapped in this web of responsibilities and If I knew I only had 10 years left I would cut myself loose and live life on my own terms.
