Meet Sarah Maddison of Women’s Wellness Center – Raleigh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Maddison.

Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been part of MidCarolina ObGyn since 2002, caring for women through every stage of life—from pap smears and pregnancies to menopause and mammograms. Over the past 23 years, I’ve often walked alongside the same patients through many of the same transitions, which has shaped my approach to care and reinforced the importance of treating the whole person, not just individual symptoms.
Several years ago, I became a Menopause Society Certified Provider to deepen my expertise and ensure I could better support patients through perimenopause and beyond—not only by managing symptoms, but by optimizing long-term health, quality of life, and overall well-being.
MidCarolina ObGyn has grown into a comprehensive practice offering same-day appointments, office-based procedures, ultrasound, and on-site mammography, serving women of all ages and stages of life. When space became available within our office, we saw an opportunity to expand how we care for our patients. That moment became the catalyst for creating a Women’s Wellness Center.
The Wellness Center blends evidence-based traditional medicine with a broader approach to menopause care and weight management. From the outset, it was important to us not to limit access through membership fees or cash-only requirements for services typically covered by insurance. At the same time, we recognized that insurance often restricts care to a narrow definition of medical necessity. To address this gap, we offer quality-of-life services that are frequently excluded, including therapies for urinary incontinence, sexual health, IV nutrition and hydration, and aesthetics.
Understanding that privacy and flexibility matter, patients can choose to bill insurance through MidCarolina or pay cash through the Women’s Wellness Center—empowering them to select the option that best fits their needs. This model allows us to provide comprehensive, personalized care while remaining accessible, patient-centered, and responsive to the evolving needs of women throughout their lives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t entirely smooth. Early on, it became clear that weight management is a crucial part of comprehensive menopause care, but I was initially hesitant to prescribe weight-loss medications. Rather than avoid the issue, I committed to the year-long board certification process through the American Board of Obesity Medicine. The exam is offered only once a year, in October, which happened to coincide with the week my daughter’s college applications were due.
Although I had prepared for months, I chose to prioritize my daughter during those final weeks—proofreading essays and fitting in one last college tour instead of doing the intensive exam review I had planned. It was important to me that medically assisted weight loss be part of our Women’s Wellness Clinic, and while board certification wasn’t required to prescribe these medications, it mattered deeply to me as a way to distinguish our practice from clinics prescribing indiscriminately for profit.
The four-hour exam was exhausting, but I’m happy to say I passed.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At its core, the practice specializes in comprehensive women’s wellness care, including expert support for perimenopause and menopause. Individualized plans address symptoms such as hot flashes, weight gain, sleep disruption, and more through a combination of lifestyle guidance, nutrition, and therapeutic support. With the most cutting-edge equipment in Raleigh, the V-tone and Morpheus 8 by Empower, we can provide highly effective therapy for urinary incontinence and female sexual dysfunction through neuromuscular stimulation and radiofrequency micro needling. Whether a woman is looking to boost her immune system or reverse the effects of cellular aging, we also offer a variety of IV infusions. For many women, looking youthful and well-rested is a strong contributor to their self-esteem and personal well-being. Our partners, Made Medical. Offer a variety of injectable treatments, including paralytics and fillers, as well as facial resurfacing therapies to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
What sets Women’s Wellness Center apart is its team of highly trained professionals—from on-site menopause-certified practitioners and specialists in medically supervised weight loss to remote experts in nutrition and mental health —we work together as a team to create customized care plans that optimize each woman’s unique life and health goals. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that patients receive care that considers both their physical health and emotional well-being, rather than focusing solely on isolated symptoms.
We strive to create a space that is warm, welcoming, and empowering—where women can take charge of their health in a supportive setting. What the brand is most proud of is our dedication to personalized attention and the holistic integration of wellness practices that help women feel balanced, informed, and supported throughout their wellness journeys.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
While opening the Women’s Wellness Clinic as a separate, free-standing entity was my vision, it would not have been possible without the professional and financial support of my partners at MidCarolina. Their trust and creative freedom allowed us to design both a physical space and an updated website that truly reflect the clinic’s philosophy—where healthcare meets self-care.
Our office manager, Heather Dillard, deserves tremendous credit for the countless hours and hands-on effort she contributed to bringing the clinic together operationally. I’m also grateful to our marketing consultant whose guidance emphasized the importance of making sure patients know how to find us and who continues to help spread the word about our services.
I’ve often described the Wellness Clinic as a “food court” of services—one place where women can access everything they need. To include aesthetics without trying to do it all ourselves, we were thrilled to partner with two highly experienced women from the established practice Made Medical, who now provide their services on-site.
As awareness of the Women’s Wellness Center grew within our building, physicians from neighboring OB-GYN practices began sharing our vision of addressing gaps in comprehensive women’s wellness care. Rather than viewing them as competitors, we welcomed them as like-minded collaborators. In 2025, several joined us as investors and business partners, reinforcing that the Wellness Center is not just for MidCarolina patients—it is a truly collaborative, forward-thinking clinic that transcends traditional boundaries and is open to all women.
