Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Cox.
Hi Sydney , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had an eye for art. Back in high school, I loved painting and drawing, and creativity has been a constant thread in my life ever since. After I had children, my sister gave me an old camera, and I started playing around with it, just experimenting and learning as I went. That’s when I truly fell in love with photography and the creative freedom it gives me. I love that every photoshoot can be completely different and uniquely my own, and that I get to see people smile and feel confident during each session.
Getting to where I am today took a lot of hard work. I put myself out there, worked for free, promoted myself, and spent countless hours learning, growing, and refining my craft. There were a lot of late nights, tears, and sweat along the way, but every bit of it was worth it. I’m proud of myself for being bold enough to step into something new that I truly love. Weddings, especially, feel like a dream, mixing romance with art allows me to bring out my adventurous side and tell meaningful, beautiful love stories through my lens.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been a lot of long hours, and much of my work happens on evenings and weekends. With children, it can get especially busy navigating my schedule and making sure everything is coordinated. Learning how to balance work, family, and personal time has been one of the biggest challenges.
That said, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love being my own boss, and I’ve learned how important it is to intentionally block off dates for family time. Finding that balance has been a learning process, but it’s one that’s helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a wedding and elopement photographer specializing in couples, and I travel, so I’m not limited to just North Carolina. I’m most proud of my ability to tell a story through my work and capture genuine emotion with every client. I love photographing laughter, happiness, and those in-between, candid moments that feel natural and real. That’s where the true connection shows, and that’s what I strive to preserve.
What sets me apart is my storytelling approach, my love for adventure, and the experience I create for my couples. My clients often tell me it feels like they’re spending the day with a friend, ’m fun, easygoing, and focused on making everyone feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. Whether it’s an intimate elopement or exchanging vows on a mountaintop somewhere new, I’m always ready to travel, explore, and capture every meaningful moment in an honest, romantic, and timeless way.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Honestly, my husband has been my biggest supporter and cheerleader throughout this entire journey. There were times early on when I was turned down by businesses I reached out to for guidance or mentorship, but that never stopped me from learning and growing, it only pushed me to try harder. Through it all, my husband believed in me completely. He encouraged me when things felt hard, worked long hours alongside me, and even learned how to second shoot with me so we could grow this together.
My clients also deserve so much credit. They’ve been incredibly kind, supportive, and trusting, and I truly wouldn’t be able to do what I do without them. Their love, encouragement, and willingness to let me tell their stories mean everything to me and have played a huge role in the success of my business.
