Rising Stars: Meet Jeff Lowe of Durham (Chancellors Ridge)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Lowe.

Hi Jeff, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had a lot of experience in public speaking and drama in many places. In 2018, my brother-in-law suggested I should look into being a Wedding Officiant / Minister. I did, and met the requirements. In mid-2019 his son (my nephew) called me to ask if I would officiate his wedding for him, and I gladly accepted. The wedding was in November, 2019, and I received terrific feedback from the family, other guests, and even the venue stating it was one of the best weddings they had ever seen there. I thought, “I can make a business from this,” and established Weddings By Jeff Lowe in 2020 where I lived, in Shreveport, Louisiana. While COVID was a rough time for many, that time was excellent for me in that I officiated 46 weddings that year. Since then, I have officiated over 180 weddings, covering North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Florida.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has gone remarkably well. Almost all the couples I officiate for are very nice, easy to talk to, and happy. I’ve only really had minor issues, one where I had to push to get final payment, and a few where the ceremony started very late. My biggest struggle is “ghosting”, where I provide a couple with information and they just stop communicating. But, this has been a great endeavor and seeing couples’ faces and hearing their words makes it worthwhile. I follow up with some of the couples I have had the honor to officiate for, and it always brings a smile to my face when they are enjoying life, raising a family, and love being married.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Professional Engineer, specializing in Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Systems. I presently work for Strata Clean Energy, and we specialize in design and installation of solar farms and battery storage facilities. I have been with Strata about 2.5 years now. I am the Director of I&C Engineering for Strata. I have over 30 years’ experience in engineering, and have worked in over 20 countries worldwide. in a wide variety of industries. Through my career I have lived and worked in New Zealand, Alaska, California, Louisiana, Florida, South Carolina, and Canada, where I am originally from. I specialize in solving complex issues and have enjoyed finishing projects including lighting designs for industrial sites, software procedure used in the nuclear industry, and control systems in many countries.

I am an uncommon engineer in that I like to speak in public and perform in community theater (I have been in over 25 productions),. This really helps for my Wedding Officiant business and also for a wide variety of tasks I do with others. I also go to schools and Universities to make presentations, and one thing I’ll always remember was that a female student in High School told me, “I want to be an engineer so bad!”

I pride myself in officiating professional, well-run, and memorable weddings. I am happy to relay that I have over 75 5-star reviews and all very happy.

What’s next?
I am only a few years from retirement, but even then, I don’t expect to stop. While I certainly look to expand wedding officiating, I am also looking to expand volunteer technical work, here and abroad. I speak French well and making solid progress in learning Italian. I am hoping to teach, mentor, and help people as much as possible, here and overseas. I especially want to further renewable energy and any other initiatives to help protect the environment as much as possible. Helping the students of tomorrow is a main focus and as long as the breath of life is in me I fully intend to keep on making life as positive as I can for those around me.
