Inspiring Conversations with Diana Moscoso of Abide Counseling and Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Moscoso.

Hi Diana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story did not begin in this country. It began in Medellín, Colombia, where the dream of becoming a professional often feels distant and out of reach. When I migrated in 1999, and years later became a mother, my perspective deepened. I recognized the responsibility I carried, not only to build a meaningful life for myself, but also to become the best version of myself for my children. I wanted to pave the way for them and to be a role model they could look to with pride.

They have always been my greatest inspiration. At the same time, I became increasingly aware of the unique and persistent challenges faced by the Hispanic community in accessing mental health care. I saw a clear need for bilingual and bicultural counselors who could truly understand the cultural context, language, and lived experiences of this community. That realization guided my decision to enter the mental health field—not only to serve my community, but also to educate and empower individuals to recognize the importance of caring for their mental health and seeking support without shame.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. The challenges were significant, beginning with the language barrier. Added to that was my role as a homemaker and the mother of two young children, along with the limited support many immigrants experience when their families remain abroad and their spouses travel for work. Together, these factors created substantial obstacles for anyone striving to become a professional and a meaningful asset to the community.

The long nights and weekends dedicated to coursework, and the constant pressure to find time to complete every assignment, remain vivid in my memory. What carried me forward through my associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees was determination and the commitment to persevere despite the odds.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Abide Counseling and Consulting?
I am a small private practice dedicated to supporting individuals, adolescents, couples, and people of all genders and backgrounds as they navigate mental health challenges. My work is grounded in the belief that healing happens best in a space where clients feel truly seen, understood, and respected.

What sets my practice apart is my focus on the problem, not the person. I specialize in trauma-informed care, with a strong emphasis on EMDR, and I offer services in both Spanish and English, allowing me to serve clients in a culturally responsive and meaningful way. Being bilingual and bicultural enables me to connect deeply with clients whose experiences may otherwise be misunderstood or overlooked.

My therapeutic style is relational and intentional. I view the therapeutic relationship as a unique and meaningful therapeutic connection, one that is built on trust, attunement, and mutual respect. I honor this connection deeply and believe it is central to the healing process, particularly for those with trauma histories.

What I am most proud of, from a brand perspective, is the diversity within my practice and the impact this approach has on my clients. Through EMDR, consistent support, a nonjudgmental environment, and a high level of connection, many clients report feeling emotional relief and noticeable shifts early in the therapeutic process. I want readers to know that my practice is not only about treatment, it is about hope, empowerment, and creating change that clients can genuinely feel.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that may surprise people is that my journey into this work was shaped just as much by personal struggle as by professional calling. While many know me as a confident, grounded therapist, few realize how much perseverance it took to get here. Navigating a new language, raising young children, and building a professional identity without the support systems many take for granted, is something that many don’t know.

Those experiences quietly influence everything I do. They are the reason I lead with patience, humility, and deep respect for each client’s pace. What people may not know is that the calm and safety they experience in my work were hard-earned, and they come from having walked alongside uncertainty myself. That information is not something I advertise, but it is something I carry into every therapeutic connection.
