Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Stevens.
Hi Tim, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I think I was a born story teller. My grandfather and father were and both my brothers are. I wrote thousands of stories during a 48-year career at the Raleigh (NC) News & Observer. After retirement, I continued telling stories in other mediums. I founded Show N Tell Ministries, a non-profit charity, to tell stories through concerts, films, plays and other events. My documentaries have won state and national awards. I founded a Broadway concert series. I have told my community’s history through a series of plays that I have written and produced. I also have written the story of the N.C. High School Athletic Association in its 100th anniversary book.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The two biggest problems I have encountered are fund-raising and letting people know about events. If no one hears, sees or experiences what you are presenting, it is disappointing. The demise of newspapers have made attracting community audiences much more difficult. Raising funds is such a problem that many of my projects are essentially self funded. What I do obviously isn’t a good business model.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Garner, NC and became a professional writer when I was 15. I covered high school games for The Raleigh Times. I worked there part-time through high school and began working there soon after graduation. My college degrees in English and Business Administration were earned at night, as was a Masters in Business Administration. Donna, my wife, has been a friend since the seventh grade. We have three children and four grandchildren. My life revolves around my faith in Jesus Christ.
