Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Griffith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Before Onelife, I was a General Manager of a Retail Store that was partnered with Onelife Fitness. I used to go regulary and setup my promotional table at the gym. Over time the GM and AGM had asked me if I wanted a job. I originally turned them down. After a month of them asking, I finally took them up on the offer. I started in Sales and then worked my way up to an Assistant GM position. After that, I was fortunate enough to receive another promotion that lead me to moving to North Carolina to open the first Onelife Fitness in the Region as a General Manager. We went on to have the biggest pre-sale in company history with 9,000 members upon opening, setting almost every company record you could think of. In just month 3, we are already operating a top 10 club in the company.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road getting here was smooth but had some hiccups along the way. The challenges that present itself when hiring 120 employees across 5 different departments in about 60-days was a challenge in itself while still conducting normal day to day operations.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As the General Manager, I oversee 7 total departments with directors for each department and handle the day to day operations of the business. I handle most all of the member issues, lead from the front, and still help with people when joining the gym. I specialize in helping members have the best possible experience in the club and operating the club in an efficient manner. I am most proud of creating and opening the largest scaled pre-sale in company history, while dedicating my time efforts equally in all facets of the business. The one thing that lead me to this and sets me apart from others is the drive and dedication it takes to achieve something of this scale. I usually work 12 hour days, Monday to Friday. That takes a certain mindset to come day in and day out and deliever on the mission of the company and to operate the business of this size.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Mark – Regional Director of operations. He has been crucial in my development and guiding me in certain areas of the business allowing me to grow and become the person I am today. He leads from afar since he is located in another state but has been very present in support.
Stephanie – Senior sales manager. She helped open the pre-sale with me and has been here every step of the way. She has taken a ton of responsibility through this whole process while also growing and developing as one of the company’s next future leaders.
Chris F. – Fitness Director. Leading the charge on the 2nd biggest department in the gym. He has had an important role in hiring and developing over 25 certified personal trainers while developing an assistant fitness director as well. I lean on Chris a lot for support. He has been inviting of the work load and process which is what it takes to be successful and progress.
