Hidden Gems: Meet Ally Raven of Ally Raven Doula Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Raven.

Hi Ally, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into the birth world began with the birth of my son over six years ago. While becoming a mother was life-changing, my birth experience left me feeling out of control and uninformed about what was happening. I remember asking questions and not always receiving the clarity or support I needed, which made an already vulnerable moment feel even more overwhelming.

That experience pushed me to learn more about birth and the options available. I discovered that birth doesn’t have to feel scary or powerless—it can be empowering when we are informed, supported, and prepared. Not long after, a friend introduced me to the world of doulas, and something immediately clicked. I knew supporting families during such an important moment in their lives was what I was meant to do.

Since then, I’ve welcomed two more children, and their births were truly magical experiences. Being educated and prepared completely transformed the way I experienced birth and confirmed my passion for helping other families feel confident and empowered in their own journeys. I’ve now been a certified birth doula for nearly three years and have had the honor of supporting more than 40 clients through pregnancy and birth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Starting a business from scratch comes with a lot of challenges. When I first began building my business, my family and I relocated from Raleigh to Charlotte, which meant learning a new area, connecting with local birth workers, and finding ways to get my name out there.

After a few months of networking and building relationships, I started booking clients and receiving referrals. Just as things were really taking off, we found out we were pregnant with our third child and decided to move back to the Raleigh area to be closer to family. We moved just a month before our daughter was born, which meant I had to begin rebuilding my business and connections all over again.

It’s been a big learning curve, but it has also pushed me in ways I never expected. Building this business has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and grow more than I ever thought I could. Along the way, I’ve also been fortunate to meet so many incredible people in the birth community who have supported and encouraged me.

We’ve been impressed with Ally Raven Doula Services, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of Ally Raven Doula Services, where I work as a birth doula supporting families throughout the Triangle area and down to Fayetteville, North Carolina. I provide emotional, physical, and educational support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum so families feel informed, confident, and empowered as they welcome their baby.

During pregnancy, I offer prenatal education sessions that help families better understand the birth process, their options, and how to prepare for labor and the postpartum period. One program I’m especially proud of creating is Birth Partner Bootcamp with Ally, an in-person and online course designed to help partners feel confident supporting their loved one through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

I also recently launched a podcast called Ally the Doula, which I’m incredibly excited about. On the podcast, I talk about all things birth, doula life, motherhood, and everything that comes along with those experiences. It’s another way for me to educate, support, and connect with families and other birth workers, while having fun of course.

What sets my work apart is the relationships I build with my clients. I often tell families that I’m their “doula for life” because we form such a strong bond during such an intimate and transformative experience. After all, I am there when they are birthing a whole human!

I’m also incredibly proud of building my brand completely from the ground up. I designed my own logo, created my website, built my social media presence, and continue to run every part of the business myself—all while raising three kids alongside my husband.

As a mother myself, I know how powerful childbirth can be for a family. My goal is to bring calm, confidence, and joy back into the birthing space by helping clients feel empowered in their bodies and supported every step of the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
This may sound a little cheesy, but the biggest “luck” in my life has been meeting my husband. We’ve been together for 13 years and married for almost nine, and I still wonder how I got so lucky to have him as my person. We’ve been through so many seasons of life together—career changes, big moves, and raising our three kids—and through it all we’ve always prioritized our relationship and our family.

He has been my biggest supporter and encourager, especially when it comes to my business. In many ways, Ally Raven Doula Services wouldn’t even exist without him. When I first had the idea of becoming a doula, he was the one reminding me that I could do it and pushing me to believe in myself.

Running a business while raising a family can be challenging, but having a partner who supports my dreams and stands beside me through every step of the journey has made all the difference.
