Hi DeAndrea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my journey in massage therapy eight years ago. My interest was sparked by receiving prenatal massages during my own pregnancy, which initially inspired me to focus primarily on working with expectant mothers.
Over the years, however, my passion and focus have evolved. I now specialize in supporting clients with injuries, those preparing for or recovering from surgery, and individuals experiencing limited mobility.
I started my career in a Thai spa, where I gained extensive training in assisted stretching techniques and working with deeper muscle layers. I later transitioned to working alongside a naturopathic doctor, where I developed a much deeper understanding of the body’s functions and how to effectively support healing, recovery, and dysfunction.
Throughout my career, I have participated in numerous vendor events, volunteered within the community, worked with elderly residents in an independent living facility, and even organized a “Moms in Business” vendor event to create opportunities for self-employed mothers to showcase their talents and services.
Currently, I proudly serve clients in Raleigh through my private practice, offering both mobile massage sessions and a curated selection of wellness products to support ongoing care and well-being.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been easy. Being self employed means working multiple positions on your own. So not only do you have to do the massages but also run the business, market, and accountant. It can be challenging but I am constantly learning and growing. Social media is the best form of marketing in today’s society and it is not something I am good at keeping up with. I now have a much better online presence. It’s also difficult trying to keep the business running during slow periods and you have to be prepared for the waves that sessions can come in and make other provisions for slower periods.

I love that our city is a growing and developing area. Many more opportunities and experiences are opening up giving our community more ways to thrive. There is always downsides to growth such as more crowded areas and lots of construction. But the area is becoming more diverse with people from all areas and backgrounds bringing more culture and perspectives to the area
