Hidden Gems: Meet Shilpa Kundeshwar of Restore Physical Therapy and Wellness, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shilpa Kundeshwar.

Hi Shilpa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
“My story is a blend of deep cultural roots, three decades of clinical science, and a mission to change how we view the human lifespan. I grew up in a culture where health was viewed holistically—not just as the absence of pain, but as a state of balance. In my Indian heritage, we were taught that caring for the body is a lifelong commitment.

I carried the values instilled in me into my 30-year career as a Physical Therapist, but I eventually hit a wall with the modern healthcare system. I saw people of all ages—from young professionals to active seniors—being rushed through a ‘revolving door’ of short appointments. The human connection was being lost, and patients with complex, chronic pain were falling through the cracks.

I knew I had to do things differently, so I founded Restore Physical Therapy and Wellness. I decided to take my practice ‘mobile’ to bring back that dedicated, one-on-one care I witnessed in my youth, meeting patients in the setting where they feel most comfortable.

To bridge the gap between clinical treatment and long-term wellness, I distilled my 30 years of experience into my book, “Forever Young – Simple Strategies for Healthy Aging”. Writing the book was a turning point for me as it allowed me to formalize my philosophy that ‘decline’ is not an inevitable part of aging, but a challenge we can meet with the right tools.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would describe it as a road of growth and refinement. The road to where I am today, actually began with the challenge of moving to a new country. It takes a specific kind of resilience to build a life in a new land while holding onto your traditions, language, and identity. I’m proud of how I’ve blended my Indian heritage with the American way of life—staying true to my roots while fully embracing this ‘melting pot’ we now call home.

The same determination it took to build a life here, is what I poured into my practice and my book. I have never walked this road alone; I have been married for 30 years to my husband, who is my true ‘partner in crime.’ His unwavering support, along with the love of our two daughters, has been the bedrock of my career. I am successful because of the love and support of my family. They gave me the courage to take the ‘leap’ and trust that the Raleigh community would value a specialized, boutique approach to physical therapy.

The other most significant change was the shift in my career when I took the decision to move toward a private, cash-based model for both my mobile services and my North Raleigh clinic inside Health House.

This wasn’t about leaving the traditional system behind as much as it was about leaning into the type of high-touch, concierge care that my clients were asking for. I realized that to provide the level of clinical ‘detective work’ required for complex pain, I needed the freedom to dedicate a full hour of one-on-one time to every single session. By stepping outside the standard billing models, I gained the autonomy to prioritize the patient’s goals above all else.

Building a hybrid practice—where I offer the convenience of mobile visits alongside a focused clinic environment—required a lot of logistical coordination, especially while finishing my book. It was a bold move to project that the Raleigh community would value this specialized approach, and the response has been incredibly rewarding. It has been a journey of finding my own voice as a clinician and creating a space where 30 years of experience can be applied without any barriers to the patient’s success.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Restore Physical Therapy and Wellness, we specialize in the science of longevity. My practice is designed for the active adult who refuses to let pain or ‘aging’ dictate their lifestyle. I combine the rigorous education I received at the esteemed University of Mumbai with 30 years of clinical experience here in the U.S. to help my clients perform at their peak, no matter their age.

What I am most known for is being a ‘Body Detective.’ Because of my three decades in the field and my board certification in aging (CEEAA), I don’t just treat symptoms—I find the root cause of ‘mystery’ pains that haven’t responded to traditional treatments. I use a combination of hands-on techniques and personalized movement science to help people re-train their bodies to move without fear.

What truly sets me apart is our one-on-one, concierge model. By moving to a private, cash-based practice, I gained the freedom to give every client a full hour of my undivided attention. I offer a unique ‘hybrid’ service: I can meet clients in their own homes through my mobile service, or see them at my boutique clinic in North Raleigh. My goal isn’t just to provide a service—it’s to ensure every person who walks through my door finds a solution, whether that starts with me or another trusted professional in my network. This ensures that elite care fits into the busy lives of our North Raleigh neighbors, rather than the other way around.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of my book. It represents my life’s work and the philosophy that ‘decline’ is not inevitable. But more than that, I am proud of the brand’s foundation. My business is a reflection of the resilience it took to immigrate and build a life here, and it is fueled by the 30 years of support from my husband and daughters. I want your readers to know that Restore PT is a boutique resource for the Raleigh community. We provide the expertise, the time, and the cultural warmth to help you stay vibrant, active, and ‘Forever Young’.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My philosophy is simple: your work is your best referral. I’ve found that when you lead with high-quality care and a true passion for solving the ‘impossible cases’, the results speak for themselves. In fact, 99% of my business is built on word-of-mouth. If you look at my 5-star patient reviews, you will see that people don’t just talk about the therapy; they talk about the outcome and the experience of finally being heard. When you deliver that level of excellence, your clients naturally become your loudest advocates.

My advice for those starting out is to focus on integrity over visibility. I am a firm believer in collaboration over competition. If I’m not the optimal fit for a patient’s specific needs, I take pride in connecting them with another professional who is. Prioritizing the patient’s success above all else builds a level of trust and professional respect that no amount of traditional marketing can buy.

I also believe in the power of a strong inner circle. Beyond professional colleagues, it is the honest feedback and encouragement from my husband and daughters that has allowed me to grow. They are my most trusted advisors, pushing me to keep my standards high and stay focused on the mission of ‘Forever Young.’ If you surround yourself with people who hold you to a standard of excellence and you focus on delivering undeniable results, your network will build itself.
