Inspiring Conversations with Neicey Phifer and Gloria Mayotte of Sile’ Tea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neicey Phifer and Gloria Mayotte.

Hi Neicey and Gloria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Tea, herbs and spices have always been a part of GG (Gloria) and Neicey’s life. Growing up they always had tea parties and enjoyed conversations that they shared during these occasions. While Neicey was in college pursing a degree in business she aspired to have her own business one day. Her passion for tea, herbs, and spices inspired her to discover ways to help others and as a result Sile’ Tea was birthed. Sile’ means to “be still” in Latin and all humans need to do this more whether you incorporate meditation and conversation with tea on the side. They make their own pastries and have a wide variety of teas, herbal and spices to choose from. They have taken tea classes, such as planting, harvesting, processing and blending at a lovely local tea nursery in Chapel Hill called Camellia Forest Nursery. Neicey is also a Certified Tea Sommelier with Tea and Herbal Association of Canada.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
By no means has it been a smooth road lol! The biggest struggle is having the startup cost and trying to pay the cost down in order to function. As we know most businesses fail within the first 2 years, but they are staying strong and hopeful, especially since they are a niche in the community. But they know that without struggle it is hard to produce a pearl, so they are enjoying every moment as they are preparing the string for our beautiful necklace!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
They sell organic loose-leaf tea, herbs, & spices packages/beverages as well as make their own pastries. They also sell tea accessories, candles, local honey, and health & beauty products. They have events such as poetry night, karaoke, tastings, painting experiences and game nights. They also rent our space for anyone to host an event for up to 30 people whether it’s a birthday, baby or bridal shower, business luncheon, book club, book release party, the sky is the limit! They are proud of their brand by offering the best customer service, where so many businesses these days lack in! When you enter in there is a sense of peace and then you feel like you are at home feel because are so welcoming! We are all family! They believe everyone deserves a place to come to experience serenity and enjoy some tea and pastry in this lovely oasis! Their short-tern goal is to turn their business into a non-profit in order to pour money into the Alamance and surrounding counties.

How do you think about luck?
They don’t believe in luck only God grace and mercy! He allows everything to happen as it does, so they just follow his lead.
