Conversations with Christy Whisner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Whisner.

Christy Whisner

Hi Christy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started off in the entertainment industry with my first modeling gig at six months old. I soon fell in love with music and theatre and performed in many plays and musicals throughout middle school and high school. I majored in acting in college and at the same time founded my first band while composing original music. Dreamkiller is a melodic hard rock band that has toured all over the U.S. and Canada. The band name is a reflection of all the hardships and negators that one has to overcome while pursuing their dreams. Through that endeavor, I was awarded national female vocal performer of the year for the Los Angeles Music Awards and performed live at the Paramount Theatre in Hollywood. I’ve had the fortunate opportunity of transitioning into feature filmmaking and have been able to incorporate having my music featured in numerous films as well. Look out for my latest project, “Regarding The Beauregards”, where I play a strong and elusive character as well as do my own stunts!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We all have our share of hardships throughout our careers, whether logistics, relationships, the money that it takes to fund the business or even the struggles of being a woman in an industry dominated by men. The key here is to reshape this as momentum, learn from every mistake and move forward with determination and confidence.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work as a professional actress and vocalist. I specialize in intelligent characters with strong choices. I am physically adept and frequently perform my own stunts as well. I feel that I have a dynamic range and a lot to offer musically as well as on a film set. I’m a people person and enjoy working with other professionals that create a positive environment. We always end up feeling like a family and that can be one of the most rewarding parts of being involved in this type of work.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, I have had a consistent Producer/Co-writer throughout my career, Tian Garcia. He is one of the most talented individuals I have ever met in my life and has been an essential element to the success of my career. He has a true understanding of music, people and life in general.

I’ve also been fortunate enough to have the support of my mother throughout all of my endeavors. She first put me in to my Acting/Modeling agency when I was a baby and has supported my dreams for my entire life.

I can also thank my husband, Kyle Whisner, who is an amazing actor/director and my personal acting guru. He stands beside me and everything I do and I’m so grateful to have him as an important aspect of my life.
