Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Albers.
Hi Emily , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began my career in healthcare as a Nursing Assistant at 19 and spent more than two decades in the field. During that time, I went to nursing school, worked primarily in inpatient pediatrics, and eventually transitioned into administrative leadership roles where I helped manage and scale private specialty practices. I later served in a hospital director role and continued supporting practices through periods of growth and expansion.
As I progressed in my career, I became increasingly aware of how fragmented the healthcare system can be. There is often not enough emphasis on identifying root causes, and far too much focus on managing symptoms. That realization became deeply personal when I was diagnosed with Lyme disease. It forced me to look beyond traditional models of care and explore more comprehensive, preventative approaches to health and healing.
After leaving healthcare, I launched a podcast to create space for honest conversations about health. I interviewed both healthcare professionals and patients navigating complex medical journeys. My goal was simple: provide education, share stories, and introduce people to alternative modalities and services that could meaningfully improve quality of life.
Through that work, I met my business partner, Lori. We shared a common vision—to build something different. Instead of working within a system we believed was limited, we wanted to create an environment centered on prevention, education, and whole-person wellness. That vision ultimately became Health House.
At the same time, my family and I were building another business, ERA Structures, focuses on high-quality residential and commercial construction. That work became an important part of our journey because it allowed us to design and build spaces intentionally—spaces that support health, community, and long-term sustainability. Many of the environments we create today, including wellness spaces, are built with that same philosophy in mind.
Together, these two businesses reflect the same mission: to build better systems—whether that means improving how people experience healthcare or creating physical spaces that support healthier lives.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I believe that’s true for any business built with intention. Growth always comes with challenges, and each one has required us to learn quickly, adapt, and stay focused on our long-term mission.
One of the biggest challenges has been building something new in an industry where many people are still learning what holistic wellness really means. We’ve spent a great deal of time educating our community about prevention, recovery, and root-cause approaches to health. That takes patience and consistency, but it’s also incredibly rewarding to see people begin to understand and experience the benefits.
Another challenge has been the operational side of launching and scaling a business—staffing, systems, scheduling, and making sure the experience we promise our clients is delivered consistently every day. At the same time, we were also growing our construction company, ERA Structures, which requires a different kind of precision and coordination. Managing two businesses simultaneously has required strong communication, clear processes, and the ability to make decisions quickly.
There have also been the normal growing pains that come with any startup—unexpected expenses, learning curves, and moments where we had to pivot or rethink our approach. But those challenges have ultimately strengthened our business. They forced us to become more disciplined, more efficient, and more intentional about how we serve our community.
As you know, we’re big fans of Health House . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Health House is a holistic wellness and movement studio built around the belief that health should be proactive, accessible, and rooted in prevention, not just treatment. Our goal is to create a place where people can take ownership of their health in a supportive, education-driven environment.
We offer a combination of wellness services and movement-based classes designed to support recovery, stress management, and overall well-being. That includes modalities such as contrast therapy, infrared sauna, red light therapy, salt therapy, sound therapy, and specialized classes focused on nervous system regulation, mobility, and functional strength. While those services are important, what truly defines us is how they are delivered….through a coordinated, whole-person approach rather than isolated treatments.
What sets us apart is our focus on education and experience. We don’t just provide services; we help people understand why they are using them and how to integrate them into their daily lives. Many of our classes and offerings are led or supported by healthcare and wellness professionals, allowing us to bridge the gap between traditional fitness and meaningful wellness.
Another unique aspect of our brand is the intentional design of our spaces. Through our work with ERA Structures, we are able to create environments that are built specifically to support health, recovery, and community. Every detail, from layout to flow to functionality, is designed with the client experience in mind. That level of intentionality is something we take great pride in.
Brand-wise, what I am most proud of is the culture we are building. We are not trying to be the biggest or the trendiest. We are focused on being consistent, trustworthy, and community-centered. We want people to walk through our doors and feel supported, educated, and empowered to take care of themselves in a sustainable way.
What I want readers to know most is this: Health House is not just a place to work out or relax, it’s a place to learn how to live well. Our mission is to help people feel better, function better, and stay healthier for the long term.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is seeing real change happen, whether that’s in a person’s health, a team member’s confidence, or a project coming to life from an idea into something tangible.
I find a lot of fulfillment in building things that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. At Health House, that might look like someone walking in overwhelmed, stressed, or in pain, and over time gaining strength, confidence, and a better understanding of how to care for their body. Watching that transformation is incredibly rewarding.
I also find happiness in the process of creating, designing systems, building teams, and developing spaces that serve a purpose. Through our work with ERA Structures, I’ve learned that building isn’t just about construction; it’s about creating environments where people can live, work, and thrive. Seeing a project move from concept to completion, and knowing it will be used and valued by others, brings a deep sense of satisfaction.
Ultimately, what makes me happiest is progress, seeing people grow, seeing our businesses evolve, and knowing that the work we’re doing is improving our community in a lasting way.
