Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathie Lukens.
Hi Kathie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My husband and I own Doggos Dog Park & Pub. We use to be members when it was under the founders ownership. We loved the concept and how it brings together our community and members. My husband is a physician by trade, and I was a flight attendant/owner of a small business for competitive cheer bows. We decided to take ownership of Doggos when the owner wanted to move on. We wanted to keep this gem going in our community to give dog owners a place to gather, have fun, and meet others with the same interests.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a struggle at times. Since we are a weather based business, last year was challenging because of the abundance of rain in our area. We plan events and hope the weather cooperates for the duration of whatever is going on.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are an off leash dog park & bar. We have a full bar with 16 taps for craft beer and ciders. We also have snacks for both humans and dogs. We require proof of vaccines for dogs attending our park to make sure it is a safe environment for all. We have an indoor heated/cooled area, a garage covered area and an outdoor dog park. We keep it clean and sanitized on a daily basis. We also have “Rufferees” who monitor our park areas to make sure all the pups are getting along and to keep an eye on the activities out in the park area.
We love to do events such as Puppy Prom, Foam Pawtys, Birthday Pawtys, and Live music events are just a few of what we offer. We also have the option to rent our our indoor area for private pawtys, meetings or events. We have food trucks as options for offering up food for events.
Some of our other weekly/monthly events are Music Bingo/Trivia on every Friday. We have a local groomer twice a month to do pawdicures/nail trims. Every Thursday is reserved for a special breed takeover with a coordinating rescue. 10% of our proceeds for that night is routinely donated to the rescue for that evening. We also have “Woof Wednesday” where we offer $5 daypasses for those who want to visit on a discount.
We are different than your usual “Dog Park”…we are a cleaner, safer option because of our vaccine policy, and sanitized park.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have so many to choose from. My parents loved to road trip travel, so I remember taking a vacation with them and touring the US by station wagon and camper. We visited a lot of the national parks, campgrounds and states. We went along the northern states, came down through California along the southern states and up the east coast back around to Michigan. It took us over 2 weeks. I think I was around 12 and my sister was 10.
