Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Fury.
Hi Anna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Funnily enough I got my start during COVID! I was working a job I hated and on breaks I’d sit in the cafeteria and type notes on my phone. Those eventually became my first book—The Alpha Awakens—under my pen name Anna Fury. I’ve been publishing fantasy and omegaverse romance since 2021. Several years ago I added Hazel Mack, a cozy but still spicy monster romance pen name. I’ve never really looked back…it’s fun having wild alter egos!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Hmmm I’m a Leo type 8 enneagram so I can definitely say my salesmanship and perseverance helped me overcome things others might have struggled with. Still, it wasn’t an entirely easy road. This industry has so many ups and downs, especially with the rise of AI and everything that comes with that. We’re diverging in terms of who wants to use or not use AI for generative purposes, and it’s been interesting (and honestly a bit frightening) to watch that play out. I love writing, though, and so I’ve really let that guide me to sticking with what’s most important and what I’m naturally good at.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One of my author friends always says a huge strength of mine is plotting, and truth be told I love that part of writing. I adore crafting new worlds and thinking about how things would work. I tend to build huge world bibles before I ever start writing, and that’s obvious in the way my settings often feel like characters. In two of my series the towns themselves are actually sentient!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I alluded to this before, but AI has been extremely polarizing within the publishing industry, especially for indie authors. Many of us are anti-generative AI and just as many are happily for it. The same polarization is happening in the traditional publishing houses where some are happy to lean into AI-generated content and some are steering clear. I suspect we’ll eventually come to a middle ground but we’re not there yet.
